How sturdy and durable is this scale over time? Any problems with breakage?

I haven't been using it obsessively, but fairly often, with no problems, including dropping it a couple of times. It doesn't seem flimsy at all.

NO IT DOESN'T COME IN A CASE. BUT IT IS A VERY GOOD SCALE.

If this has a lithium battery, you can't bring it on a plane with you. Am I correct?

Yes, you can bring it in the plane. A note: turn off the scale (hold down the on button) when you’re done weighing something. It doesn’t turn itself off and sucks up the battery. Great product.

If the maximum capacity is 110 lb, how do I know the excess weight to be removed?

max weight for a checked bag should be no more than 50lbs over 51 - 70lbs they will charge you an overweight fee. 71 - 100lbs will be even more money but over 100lbs are not allowed. This is only within the U.S. For international flights over 70lbs is not allowed. (These are Delta baggage fees)
