Will it kill carpenter ants outside? Is it a barrier prevention or does it only kill them on contact?

Honestly it didn’t prevent or kill the ants. I had to spray a ton to kill the ants, so basically they drowned vs. being killed by the product. Suffice it to say it made a big mess.
