Product Description The Impact pad with hexpad technology is integrated into a new low profile, form-fitting knee or elbow pad. Perfect for all levels of impact absorption. McDavid's patented HexPad compression apparel revolutionized the athletic protection industry. Many pros and division one college athletes use HexPads to protect against abrasion, impact and to maintain muscle warmth through compression. Others try to copy but no one can match the performance and durability of the McDavid HexPad products. .com The #6440 HexForce Knee or Elbow Pad is one of McDavid's most popular and versatile pads, featuring proprietary HexPad material in a versatile, lightweight, protective pad for the knee or elbow. Individual hex shaped pads conform to and move with your body for solid comfort and continuous protection, while compression fabric holds the pad firmly in place and keeps muscles warm to prevent pulls and fatigue. HydraVent hDc Moisture Management Technology keeps you cool and dry, as well. HydraVent hDc (1) This material results from a patented process that permanently bonds hydrophilic (water-attracting) molecules to mid-weight and heavyweight synthetic fiber surfaces, ensuring HydraVent hDc remains intact even after numerous washings. (2) As you exercise, your body produces perspiration to cool itself and this perspiration condenses on your skin and builds up heat and discomfort. (3) Moisture is pulled away from the skin by the wicking ability of HydraVent hDc, so your skin remains cooler and drier, and your body's temperature management system can do its job more effectively. (4) Once the fabric absorbs the moisture, it is spread rapidly across a broader surface area for faster evaporation, and this evaporation draws heat out of the body. (5) Finally, when moisture is one molecule thick, HydraVent hDc starts its drying process, allowing for a consistent and rapid moisture transport ability over a long use time. Hexpad Hexpad Technology is a patented padding system that permanently bonds dozens of individual athletic pads into fabrics. Because the pads are individually applied, they move with and conform to the body for continuous protection that isn't bulky or restricting. The material is machine washable. Ideal Balance Between Protection, Coverage Area and Fit & Feel
I've found these knee pads to provide the ideal balance between PROTECTION, COVERAGE AREA and FIT & FEEL. And all of this at what I believe to be an excellent price point.Although I'm writing this review from the perspective of a soccer player, I think my critique would be helpful for other applications: home improvement projects, automotive repair, construction, hunting, snowboarding, volleyball, among others. As my team's soccer goalie, I've cycled through several different brands of knee pads to protect myself from hard dives to the turf. What I've discovered is that each brand of knee pad presents varying trade-offs between three factors:1) PROTECTION. If your primary concern is protecting your knees from impacts with the field, turf or hardwood playing surfaces, then you'll want to select a bulkier knee pad -- either one with very thick padding, or perhaps even one with a hard outer shell. Those types of bulky knee pads do a great job with protection, but the trade-off is that their bulk tends to affect your freedom of movement, your overall mobility.2) COVERAGE AREA. Sometimes the impact will occur right above or below or to the side of your knee cap. Ideally, you want the knee pad to provide at least some degree of protection to the immediate area surrounding your knee cap.3) FIT & FEEL. This is a key factor that is often overlooked. The last thing you want to be doing is readjusting the position of your knee pad after every sprint, slide tackle, or impact with the ground. And what if the play is continuing and you don't have time to readjust them? In that instance, with your knee pad askew, it won't even provide you with proper protection and coverage -- which defeats the entire purpose of wearing them! After several practices and games using the "McDavid Hexpad" knee pads, I've found them to provide the best balance between PROTECTION, COVERAGE AREA and FIT & FEEL. Their design is unlike any I'd previously seen. They utilize several nickel-sized pads that are spaced slightly apart to allow for a better range of motion and flexibility. The rest of the fabric is 80% Nylon and 20% Spandex, which allows for excellent flexibility as well as conformity to your body. They hardly ever slip around even after hard impacts and slide tackles. In sum, these knee pads protect you, while also allowing for freedom of movement and a lot of "give."[FYI: I am 6'1 & 185 lbs. I purchased the Size X-Large, and they fit me perfectly. Also, I should note that I've used this product exclusively for knee padding; the manufacturer says they're also functional as elbow pads.]Previously, I'd been using the "Reusch Adult Kevlar Knee Guard," which placed a greater emphasis on protection. And although they protected my knees quite well, they were bulky and limited my movement, range of motion and kicking power. Also, they tended to slip and slide around after nearly every impact, resulting in my having to constantly readjust them mid-game.To reiterate, I've found that the "McDavid Hexpad" knee pads provide the best balance between PROTECTION, COVERAGE AREA and FIT & FEEL. And all of this at what I believe is an excellent price point.

Two pack
I suppose it should have been obvious, but I could not tell if this was a single or a pair. The description says pad, not pads but it is indeed a pair. Just thought I'd throw that in there in case anyone else was confused.

One Time use/Disposable?
Ok..these are the second or third pair of these I have purchased for my daughter who is an 8th grade basketball player. Think of these as an "airbag" for the knee. Cause it saves you knee..but only 1 time.. then it's shot. On the second game she used these, the first hit to the ground and she ripped a hole in them... Wooden Gym floor etc. Then the next game of the tourney we had rubber hex pieces popping out. So at this point I am very disappointed in the Toughness of the material that McDavid uses for these. Very Nylon stocking like. I may just get Red Duct tape and cover the hole up for the season. She wore them for 2 games, hit the groud 1 time and we are out the $30.00. Her knee is fine though.. So that's good. But just weak materials. I just don't see another alternative or I would go there at this point..

I don't care if they don't last for a year or a few months because I don't even know they are on due to the lightweight and being comfortable. I forget that I'm wearing them
I go wear out knee pads often due to working HVAC. I don't care if they don't last for a year or a few months because I don't even know they are on due to the lightweight and being comfortable. I forget that I'm wearing them, but my knees thank me at the end of everyday. Don't expect them to last forever and you'll be happy. Rocks, gravel, concrete, crawlspaces, tile... My knees thank me for wearing these. It doesn't matter the brand, they all wear out. This same review can be said about similar style knee pads in my line of work.

Great product, BAD sizing
I love the knee pads and they work well for my yoga class. BAD SIZING: Based on their own size chart, the Large should have been sufficient (15" circumference knee). Nope, I had to return a Large. Then I ordered the and XL, nope too small, cutting off blood circulation. Ordered the XXL, Voila! If the knee pad fits great in the mid knee area, but the material above and below the knee does not fit and squeezes and your blood cannot circulate, that is bad sizing. REFUNDS: They have a great return policy, full refund of total price paid, no restock fee bs. Returned the large and xlarge, no issues. I recommend they update their sizing chart.

Mixed feelings for volleyball - like the fit and feel, but not durable for court surface
I have mixed feelings on these for use as volleyball kneepads. I really like the way they fit and feel... they are not bulky at all. I tend to end up crashing to the ground a lot on defense. I feel like they do a decent job protecting my knees, but the material doesn't hold up too well.I've attached picture of the small tear that formed after just wearing these for a few games. There's that much skin I have left on my knees by having worn these, so they did their job, but obviously you don't want a tear every time you dive. (That said, these really aren't advertised as court pads, and they aren't prohibitively expensive to replace every couple of seasons.)The McDavid 645 pad is probably a little better as far as durability goes, but is not quite as comfortable to me. Worth a shot, but don't be surprised if you need to replace them fairly often if you play a lot. I bought a couple of pairs of traditional volleyball pads (Asics and Mizunos) and just found them to be uncomfortably bulky.

Skinny
Good quality; thin enough to fit under some skinny trousers, but thick enough to do their job (light protection - not suitable for tilers/builders etc). I should add that you'll want to go a size up from the chart if you have particularly muscular calves and thighs: that goes by knee circumference, and I guess assumes a runner's physique for the rest of the fitment.

Totally incorrect sizing.
Ordered XL - what came was packaged as XL (even the support itself has X-Large printed in it) but it was so small it barely got up my calf - once forced on my knee, it was so tight it was cutting the circulation off! Returning it for an alternative.

Not as pictured
The product delivered was not as long as the one shown in the picture, but top marks to the seller for resolving it.Fabric is also very thin and it ripped easily. Really really tight fit, the upper end constricted blood flow and I am of slim build. The hexagon design of padding is useful but the overall design is not great and therefore didn't suit my purpose.

Light and non bulky
A little small sizewise.

Excellent lightweight, comfortable
Excellent lightweight, comfortable, strong, well made item which I actually use as a shin pad for football games with friends, although I would definitely use it as a knee or elbow pad if I needed to protect or support any sort of injury. In fact I have just ordered another pair to use when the current ones become worn, just in case they stop making them !
