Works better than most other RCA to HDMI out there at this price.
This thing is amazing. I've used so many other RCA capture devices and upscalers- all with about the same mediocre quality or some fatal flaw. But this thing? This inauspicious thing delivers the goods! This thing actually works! There's nothing to it- just plug in the source via RCA, and output via HDMI. Select 4:3 or 16:9, and that's it! Mostly I've used this to capture and upscale VHS footage, and despite a flicker of discoloration now and then, this thing holds on to the video quality for better and longer than I've seen before. Watching VHS tapes on an HDTV through this thing is actually FUN! Colors are ever so slightly crunched, with some harsher blacks and brighter blooms, but it's not bad- especially given the option to force original aspect ratio. Worked fine on my old video games too, but honestly I wouldn't use it for that because it only takes composite video. I highly recommend you use S-video or better for old video games on newer TV. That said, it's still better to use this device than to simply plug your composite video directly into the TV. So yes, I highly recommend this device. I wish I'd purchased it years ago. Honestly one of the best composite upscalers I've ever seen.

Great product
I recently purchased a Fire Stick TV converter and was excited to use it with my old TV. Sadly, I soon discovered that the HDMI port was not compatible with my old TV. This was an immense disappointment, as I was looking forward to using the converter on my TV. The Fire Stick TV converter itself is a very impressive product, with a sleek design and excellent streaming capabilities. I connected it to other devices in my home easily, and the streaming services worked perfectly. It's an excellent product that I recommend to others. However, I was disappointed that the HDMI port was not compatible with my old TV, as that was the primary purpose I had for purchasing the converter. I'm sure that it works with newer TVs, but I was unable to use it with my old TV. Overall, the Fire Stick TV converter is a great product, but it didn't work with my old TV. I would recommend it to others, but caution them to make sure that the HDMI port is compatible with their TV before purchasing.

Records well from Tivo Bolt to DVD recorder
Used this product to transfer more than 30 hours of Tivo recorded materials on to DVD's. The picture quality is not HD but good enough for my purposes. Super easy to set up and worked the first time, no trouble-shooting required. Before purchasing I even had a video engineer tell me that this would not work as he proceeded to give me a $100 solution and state that "It's the only way to do it." Surprise!

Easy Setup
THIS ITEM WORKED FROM THE START! YEAH! I was a little leary of this product because I purchased a device with a different form factor that did not work. The hook up was easy. Simply plug the three composite plugs from the game machine into the Dingsun RCA to HDMI Converter which is easy enough to follow the color coding. Plug the HDMI cable into a port on the TV and plug the AV adapter in an outlet. All that's left is to select the desired aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9 by way of the slide switch on the end. That's all there is to it. Once the game console is turned on with the TV on the matching HDMI channel, it just works. Love it and would highly recommend this over the Portholic unit.

Sound but no picture
I should have known that a video processor of any kind at this price would be unlikely to work. I wanted to convert 8mm camcorder tapes to digital. I get sound but but no picture. Then it occurred to me that my home theatre pre-amp/processor has analog inputs. I hooked the camcorder to the pre-amp and got both picture and sound from the HDMI output. I am now using the pre-amp, a HDMI-to-USB converter, and a laptop to transfer my old tapes (instead of a desktop PC). It's not as convenient, but it works very well. The video circuitry in the pre-amp is way superior to any little box I can buy.

Works as avertised
This product works just as advertised. Seems to be fairly well made. The unit itself is powered and it does get warm, so I was somewhat concerned about this. However, after operating it for about an hour, it did not seem to be over-heating. I haven't used it for any longer period than that, so I don't know about the performance in long term operation. Three stars for picture quality because obviously going from high definition to S-video or standard RCA audio/video, well.. you're losing the high definition but it's clear and watchable. The most noticeable thing to me was the loss of color saturation.

Great while it worked!
At first, I loved this product! It worked great to down-convert my cable box to an old DVD player/recorder I use with my TV. The picture quality was not awesome, but it was pretty decent and I don't mind lesser quality video. The audio was great, and stereo sounds as well as surround sound worked perfectly. However, after just 4 months of use, it stopped working without warning, and started making a flashing black to Grey scree, in time to the flashing of the power indicator light. The audio cut out completely. I tried a different adapter, changed the wall socket I used, but nothing would make it work. I don't know why it only lasted such a short time, but I can't really recommend it because of this, and cannot advise against it because until it died, it was great. I have to admit that I haven't contacted the manufacturer because I couldn't find any indication in English of whether there's a warranty beyond that offered by Amazon, so I doubt there is one. I would have to say that barring any unexpected surprises, this is a darn good unit for those of us who prefer to make use of our older components when technology gets ahead of that tech's capabilities. But you take your chances when you buy it. I would consider buying it again, but my husband slapped together a homemade converter when this unit failed, and I no longer need another one.
