Baking All Year Round: Holidays & Special Occasions Review: Ro’s baking in the cutest book ever - I absolutely love Ro’s recipes. I’ve been watching her videos for 7 years and I FINALLY got one of her books. I went with this one because I can use it to make cute treats for family functions and not just geeky things for friends even though that would be fun too. I will admit I don’t have some of the supplies you need ( had to get rid of all my piping tips and whatnot when I moved) but overall it’s a great book. The recipes are stellar, fun colors, pictures to help when you are baking, templates in the back of the book. Here’s the thing though: you don’t have to make it look like Ro does. I plan to get my baking stock back up, but until then I can still make these just as well with my pans and a butter knife. It tastes just as good with or without a cute face on it. This is a book that you can start out with and slowly stock up on baking tools. And as you get more tools (which she has a list of in the front of the book, so no chasing people down in the craft/baking store and looking up how to do x, y, & z) the items get more magical, and since you know how to bake the base items the decorating becomes easier. Practice makes perfect, and believe me I used to suck at baking until 4 years ago. I mean, an angry chef who specifically looks at you when they say “follow the recipe. Don’t add anything to it or I will have you make it again,” kinda helps. But anywho, this is a great book and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. Happy baking! Review: Something in here for everyone - What I like most about this book is that it contains gluten free, dairy free, and vegan recipes. All which come super in handy because my mother in law and other members of my husband's family have a varying range of dietary issues ranging from Celiac disease to lactose intolerance. With the recipes in this book I can continue to show love the way I know how (baking) without causing anyone intestinal distress. The recipes are also easily adjustable for the experienced gluten free vegan baker. Another fantastic feature is the step-by-step visual aid. I am a visual learner, so these picture-by-picture instructions are super helpful. Especially when attempting any of these for the first time. It has visual explanations of the terminology used throughout the book and even an example picture of over-beaten cream so you know exactly what it looks like when you've gone too far. The book is also well organized by holidays: starting with Valentines day all the way until new years, and ending with special occasions such as graduations, birthdays, and baby showers.

Ro's book reads like a letter from a friend tbh
So I just received my book today... I had been putting off buying it because of the price but luckily for me the listing went down to about $11 for a couple of hours and I snagged it before the price went back up- anyway onto the review. Seeing it in person I forgot how short it actually is considering I oogled this cookbook book in target for a while before committing so I took a photo next to a standard cable remote for my TV just so you can see how short it actually is, but don't let that fool you! All of the pictures and text is standard size and is very easy to read. And about that.. It's surprisingly easy to read? All the recipes seem super complex but if you read them step by step she writes them super simply and I don't think anyone would have a problem following any of these recipes other than the fact that some of the equipment she lists you might not have in your home like I don't own a stand mixer but luckily Ro has thought ahead! Any stencils, shapes, cookie cutters or anything you might need is in the back of the book so that you can make your own should you need a certain shape or something that you can't find in the store and she even has a how-to instructions in the beginning of the book so that you know exactly how to use those she provided. And as for the stand mixer I feel like I can still follow every single one of these recipes by simply mixing it by hand so that really solves that problem. Also if you're thinking about buying this but you don't really go anywhere like parties and are worried these are kinda 'holiday only'- That's all right because honestly a lot of these you could just change the decorations on them or make them for dinner such as with the rolls or the pizzas but even the cupcakes you could simply not put certain icing designs on them and you can use them for all year around! I haven't made a recipe yet but I'll edit this with my experience :^) Edit: Ive made 2 recipes so far (the scones and the mini pumpkin cakes) and I got to say both of them turned out amazing. You just have to go in with realistic expectations like the fact that scones are going to taste like scones- they were moist and delicious and subtly flavored but they aren't cookies so they weren't extremely sweet, they were a little bit bland if you got a peice with no fruit. As for the pumpkin spice mini cakes I was too afraid of using her recipe for the Swiss buttercream (having never made icing before) that I just got some fresh regular buttercream from the Publix down the street... and I should have followed her recipe because hers included espresso so mine came out way too sweet and it kind of took away from the amazing flavor of the cake. So basically what I'm saying is follow her instructions because she will not guide you wrong. If you're like me then you might find this a little unnerving- because I've tried to follow Tasty recipes before (even one babish recipe) and they all came out just awful so it was surprising that every recipe I've made so far was amazing. 10/10

I got this for an additional gift for a bride to be and it was the perfect addition! I love all of the holiday and seasonal baking things. I can’t wait to try the champagne frosting myself.

Targeted more for advanced bakers
I’ve always been a huge fan of Ro and her Nerdy Nummies series. I really enjoy this cookbook and love the creative desserts and that it offers gluten and dairy free, as well as vegan, recipes. The visuals are vibrant and appealing too and offer helpful step-by-step pictures for the more complex desserts. The only con I can find with this book is that it requires a lot of special pans, molds and cookie cutters that could be costly if you don’t already own them and want to recreate the look exactly. Ro does include a few templates in the back of the book however, which is helpful for those willing to do the extra steps. In my option, this book is for a more advanced baker if you’re wanting it for Ro’s creative designs.

Great recipies very versatile, its catered to events such as Christmas, Halloween ect but its easily altered to suit any occasion. Eg, reindeer christmas cake, remove the reindeer and Christmas decorations and its a normal cake for any occasion. Book quality is great.

Bought this as a birthday gift for my teenage daughter, who is a fan of this YouTuber. She loves it. High quality book with beautiful pictures and clear explanations. My daughter has prepared a few of the recipes and, though they are not the simplest, they were all a hit.

Las recetas son buenas. Algunas recetas son las clasicas con un pequeno twist que les da un nuevo sabor. Algunas son laboriosas pero es esperado por las imagenes del resultado final.
