Rainy day fun!
This gem digging kit is great fun and good for learning! It comes with ten real stones like amethyst and tiger's eye, which is a nice mix. You get tools like a digging stick, a brush, and even a magnifying glass, which are perfect for little hands to use. There's also a colorful paper that helps you know what each stone is and gives you some cool facts. Just so you know, it can get a bit dusty, so it's best to do it in a place that's easy to clean, maybe even outside. And because it's National Geographic, you know it's good quality.Getting the stones out is really satisfying. The block is easy to chip away with the tools, and a bit of water can make it even easier, but it might get a little messy. The stones themselves are good quality, and some are a decent size, perfect for starting a rock collection. It comes in a decent box too, so it's a perfect gift, especially for a rainy day. It's a fantastic mix of playing and learning.

Kids loved it
My boys loved this as soon as I showed them it. They are 7 and 8 and loved digger about in the “rock” to find gems.It comes with the digging tool, a little brush and a magnifying glass as well as the block with gems in. You also get a booklet with photos of the gems so you can identify them. The eldest took it seriously, brushing off dust as he dug and acting like an archeologist. Then washing and drying the gems before identifying them. The younger just really liked digging even when everything was found. The booklet is great for identification but as all gems are naturally a bit different they needed a bit help to match some of them up as they looked significantly different than the stock photos.Despite best efforts from the boys, the plaster dust and bits did go a bit of everywhere on the table and floor, but as its plaster its really easy to vacuum or wipe up.A good price for a nice engaging item that has educational merits too, I immediately got a request from the oldest for one with different gems for another time. He is starting a collection now.

Great for kids
There are 10 real precious stones in the set: amethyst, geode, pyrite, pink quartz, gray agate, green aventurine, green fluorite, snowball obsidian, sodalite and tiger's eye. The excavation tool and brush that come in the box are designed exactly as needed. The magnifying glass is also a great addition to examine the beauty of the stones in more detail. Thanks to the colorful identification page, we can easily recognize each stone and there is also interesting information about each stone. The only point to note is that some dust may come out during the excavation process, so I recommend using it in an area that is easy to clean, such as a garden or balcony. The National Geographic name also gives confidence. If you want to increase your child's interest in science, develop their manual skills and have a fun time, I definitely recommend this set.

Gold mine!
Something fun for a rainy day! This digging activity was better than some that I have done before - the plaster comes away without too much mess and the "gems" are reasonable. Perfect for the kid who loves to go fossil hunting!

Fun and informative
My son has an interest in different rocks at the moment, and this is the ideal kit for him to explore 10 different types of stone. He had fun digging them out and reading about each one. We did this dig kit outside as it can get really messy. The gem stones are a good size and are easily identifiable using the instruction booklet.

A great gift for a child that has an interest in rocks! Perfect for a rainy day!
This kit is so much fun! The plaster is easy enough to chip away with the tools provided, though wetting it with water makes it easier for kids (but it can get messy!). The gems are great quality and easy to identify with the included sheet. Some of them are a nice size and would make a lovely collection on their own. My gemstone-loving daughter had a blast with this kit. It’s nicely packaged and would make a fantastic gift—perfect for a rainy day in the UK!
