Used it with Kali in Ethical Hacking class for capturing WPA2 encrypted frames. Things worked as expected. Inexpensive device for experimenting with promiscuous mode. Only wish it was available as a USB C device.

This ar9271 device is great with debian and Kali Linux. So far I have tested ap mode on this device and of course 4G WiFi connectivity works. Speeds are pretty good especially for the price it is . If I am able to crack passwords and use it for other stuff I will update the review to include it so check back for that info in a month or whenever. You get off pretty good signal with it and the drivers are already installed in Linux.

I expected a hassle to instal drivers or perhaps only be able to run this through WSL, it works way better than expected. Plug it in, go to windows optional updates and you will see the Atheros driver pop up if it didn’t automatically install. Wireshark recognizes this right away. I’m sure it works great as a standard WiFi adapter compatible with 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

I bought this because it has drivers for older Windows operating systems. It has worked with Vista, Windows server 2008, 10 and 11 and Linux. A driver will not be found automatically on windows you must download the driver on another PC, that and the fact that it is on the slow side are the cons but this device has great compatibility with older OS. it is a bit on the large side for these kids of inexpensive adapters.
