Q: How do you prepare the soil?

As with planting any type of seed, good preparation of the area is essential. Do not lay Grotrax™ over any existing grass or vegetation. Grotrax™ must touch the soil it is to grow on, so clear all old grass and vegetation, loosen the top 2 inches of soil with a rake and create a smooth surface free of any debris. Once you apply Grotrax, correct watering is key to growing your Grotrax™ grass, once you are happy your Grotrax™ patch fills the area to be fixed water thoroughly with a spray nozzle on a ‘Shower’ type setting, Do Not apply a forceful jet of water to Grotrax™. Water 2 to 3 times a day to keep Grotrax wet until the new seeds start to grow and grass blades have reached 3 inches tall, at this stage it’s OK to mow along with the rest of the lawn. When in doubt, water more rather than less.

Q: Can you use this with pets?

I see no reason why not. This is like a carpet of grass and fertilizer. You need to keep the pets from ripping the carpet out, but once it grows, it's just regular grass.

Q: Is this product good for shade areas?

I did not have any luck with this product; I purchased enough to cover 200 feet, followed all directions, and not one blade of grass appeared after a few weeks of directed maintenance/care.
