Ok I started reading reviews after I had already purchased and I was so nervous that my experience would be similar to the negative reviews I read but that was not the case. Let. Me. Tell. You. This dig is great and was a big hit at my daughters birthday party for kids as well as adults. The packaging was great as the block came wrapped in bubble wrap to protect it from breaking in transit. The block did not break apart easily and it took the kids a while to finally get he gemstones which was great. It kept them engaged and entertained. The gems were spread out nicely and were just beautiful. I got about 10 kits and all 10 had all of the gemstones in it. The googles were definitely small for the older kids but no one cared they were just happily to uncover their gems. The only thing I wish would have been included in each box is a little chart with all the gemstones names and pictures. I had to go online and print it out. Other than that, I would definitely purchase this product again and highly recommend it.

Without a doubt, this was a well-worth buy. I used this with my lesson plan for my church club ministry class. The kiddos enjoyed themselves, and my kiddos found all of the stones. The only drawback is that it can get a bit messy. Our tables in class have plastic tablecloth liners down, but I suggest a plastic tablecloth that you can roll up and throw away when done.

This is the 3rd time I've purchased this kit! Twice for my little one, and once for a gift. Keeps kid busy for a long time,and they love discovering the gems. Makes an excellent gift! This seller offers a great price and was delivered the next day!

First off, I didn't realize it was 12 yrs+, I don't know why because it didn't include really any material with it that was age specific. My son is 8 and loved the brick and chiseling out the gemstones. My sons first comment was "Oh, I thought it was bigger" But that mentality quickly faded as it took him about 7min of chiseling to find the first gemstone. It took him about 45min to get them all chiseled out and washed off and we actually got 12 gemstones! Awesome you'd think, but my son wanted to know more. He wanted to know what kinds of gemstones they were and a little information about them. Well, don't expect a geology lesson with this kit because it came with NOTHING. No chart to help identify the gemstones, no informational pamphlet, just an instruction guide telling you how to use a hammer and chisel just in case it had you scratching your head lol.Here's where it gets weak, the kit includes a ceramic streak plate, which is used to test the gemstones to help identify what they actually are. We couldn't get a single gemstone to make a streak on that streak plate, it started to rough up the stones nice polish so we stopped applying more pressure and called it quits. The included documentation on Amazon's site to identify the gemstones was less than valuable. 2 of them are labeled as "crystals" which are not types of minerals but a type of structure. 4 of our gems were unidentifiable by the same chart.All in all, not a bad product for $15 like some of these comments go on about just don't expect any kind of learning experience. I've messaged the company regarding the streak plate and the gemstones, if they respond I will update my review if it allows.**UPDATE** Horizon Group sent me another one that was manufactured 2 months later, won't be able to check out the product until summer. They didn't acknowledge the pictures of the stones that weren't listed or identifiable, nor the streak plate not working. I think they just sent me another product in an attempt to resolve the issue, not to correct the problem. Fingers crossed, it was a one time mistake. My son actually wants to learn.

Grandson loved it. He started hammering right away, he loved the goggles and I must say he was adorable in them!
