hello. That's not a easy question to answer. Long meaning width? As your looking at the paper come out, left to right, 23 inch wide, then Yes, you have about 47inch's from left to right of the desk. If long is meaning depth, as in from the front where the paper comes out to the back opposite side, the No, it's only 7.94 " deep.

Is it made up of compressed or particle wood?

Yes. It's a very nice and sturdy desk though. Even though it is particle wood construction it does not have a cheap or weak feel about it at all and I have had no worries of swaying or sagging boards or pieces. I felt it was very good quality for what I paid for mine. It is decently "heavy" and has a nice smooth finish that is comfortable to the touch. I work from home so I use my desk daily and have had no complaints or negative issues with it.
