I love these boots if only for the sole
I love these boots if only for the sole, as everything else has those awful glued together soles. The worthless dual density glued crap soles on work boots today are worthless, just crap. The CAT Alaska has an old fashioned solid rubber sole. Yes its heavy, yes it doesn't flex easy, yes the oiled leather doesn't breath well. No they are not Gore-Tex and you can't stand in a rain filled pot hole waiting for your soy latte while your girlfriend pays. These are MAN'S boots, the require retreatment (use Sno-Seal) every few months to stay waterproof. Read though, the leather is waterproof but that doesn't mean you can wade in them. If you are working in standing water you should be wearing rubber boots or overshoes. Where the tongue, laces and toe meet there is a small hole at the union point of the leather pieces. I always shoot some black RTV in the holes and than you actually can stand in water but really that's the time for rubbers. If you want to wear grown up man's boots buy them, than let your beard grow

Extremely Comfortable Boots, Built to Last
We couldn't find many pairs of work boots locally in my husband's size, believe me the pickings were very slim, he wears a 12 EE, Amazon carries a large selection in his size and we actually got to be picky about what we bought this time. We totally went with reviews in choosing these boots and the reviews were spot on, they fit great...for the first time he didn't need to change back into his old boots before his work day was over. Lately he has been working 12 hours/ day 6 and 7 days a week so he has to have comfortable boots. These are not only comfortable but they are built to last, you can tell from looking at the sole and the overall quality of the boot that they will last a long time. We usually replace boots yearly but this looks to be the first time we won't need to buy a new pair anytime soon

Good work boots
These are warm, have good traction, last plenty long and have safety ratings galore (slip resistant, oil resistant, voltage resistant, impact resistant). They are nice and warm and i have not had much need for winter socks yet (temps reaching 32F/0C). There is an insulator that wraps around the ankle sections in these that you will have to work over a little bit to make them comfortable. It will dig in to your ankles if you do not roll it over before you wear these.

My favorite shoe
I have a couple chronic illnesses that cause joint and muscle pain. And I have had about eight pair of these hiking boots over the years. I went to the local shoe store I was getting the boots at and they longer carried them. I did find them on Amazon. I was looking for black but would take brown. My feet hurt very badly and tennis shoes or pretty much anything else but these boots. I ordered the same size that I’ve been wearing for years and they fit the same, very good. They are stiff at first like any new shoe but after a few months they start to feel like fuzzy bunny slippers !!! Picture of the new brown hiking boot and the 10 + year old black hiking boot.

What happened?
Caterpillar boots used to be great. Unfortunately something changed because, of the last two pairs I purchased, the first became too painful to wear and the second, a size 12, is larger than the size 13 I have. How is a size 12 larger than a 13?

Not the same size as previous versions.
I replaced my 10+ year old Cats with these, I normally wear thick tube socks and my previous boots fit perfect. Not with these, they seem bigger but had gotten the same size as my old ones. I used a thicker sock and they fit better, but by the time I get home they are a little loose again.

Not What They Used To Be
I bought these boots to replace a pair of the same boots that over time have worn down. I have owned 5 pairs of these Cats and the newest pair I would have to say are horrible. The older versions of these would take on heck of a beating and keep going, whereas the new ones I just bought are far from it. On the first day I owned these, I dropped a piece of wood on the toe and it literally ripped the leather right off the toe exposing the steel toe. I don't know what happend to the Alaska FX that I have grown to love, all I know is these are not it! I will not be buying a pair of Caterpillar boot anytime again in the future.

Great boots!!
I have worn Caterpillar boots for riding my motorcycle for 11+ years. They have held up extraordinarily well. I have had other boots in the past that have lasted only a few weeks. I finally retired my first pair after 10 years. I've had my second pair for a while now and love them just as much. I frequently get caught in the rain and once they dry out, they're as good as new. (I actually bought this pair to wear while the others dry out!) I'm a woman who wears shoe size 8 1/2 to 9, but was unable to find a decent pair in women's sizes. The 7 1/2 fit me perfectly with a small insole. Not only do I appreciate the protection these boots offer while riding, they are comfortable to wear all day. Thank you Amazon for carrying the smaller sizes that are almost impossible to find in stores!
