A very unique color that is difficult to achieve. Very potent-a little goes a long way.

I had a lot of trouble removing the seal under the cap. Thankfully I did it in the sink, and used a pair of pliers to remove part of the seal. Gave up on using my fingers since I knew I'd end up staining by hand and clothes. I did a quick test in some milk, and at first it had a greenish tinge, but after blending the color turned more blue. It did not want to blend into the milk, still had lose bits left at the edges and bottom. I'm going to have to REALLY BEAT my icing to get it to fully incorporate.

Not sure quite what to do with this food coloring, I eyed the last 2 blueberry bagels in our bread stores and decided I would make our kids blueberry bagels with blue raspberry cream cheese for breakfast (about 3-4 oz of cream cheese, a scant teaspoon of confectioner's sugar, and a dash of raspberry extract... as my kids called it: "frosting"). Knowing they were hungry, I got to work. The first thing I encountered with the food coloring was a warning under the ingredients that one of the coloring agents used "may have an adverse effect in activity and attention in children". Being as I already have one kid with ADHD and the other whose energy level rivals the Duracell bunny - I proceeded anyways. However, this may be something for parents looking for food coloring to consider if they avoid artificial colorings for these concerns. The second thing that I encountered was that unlike the McCormick food coloring I usually buy that the safety seal comes off easily, I couldn't get this safety seal off without the assistance of a steak knife. When I did get it open, the aqua gel was all over the seal and so got all over my fingers. Incidentally, this would not be the only time I'd get the gel on my hands and I can easily say (and will admit this may be my own inexperience with gel colors) that this is the messiest food coloring I've ever worked with. My thumb will be stained for a couple of days FOR SURE. Of note here: The directions make sure to say that a little goes a long way. I used a single generous drop and it definitely gave the cream cheese a full color. They weren't kidding about that. Also, it didn't stain the bowl that I used to make the cream cheese which was something I was concerned about after my fingers looked like I'd reprinted "Blueberries for Sal". It distributed evenly and easily, and I was pleased with the coloring that it provided. Overall - if you are someone who is frosting a lot of cakes or goodies and needs a food coloring agent that will give a bright vibrant color, this may be something for you to consider purchasing (especially if you're not worried about artificial colors or how messy you get). However - if you're someone like me who decorates cakes 2-3 times a year for birthdays or holidays, the price tag may not justify the cost especially since I can't comment on the long-term viability of the product (how long will it last on the shelf). I won't disclose to you how long I've had my current boxes of McCormick in my cabinet, but I will say that at the price point I don't feel bad throwing it away if I question how good it is. This Colour MIll product, on the other hand, I'd be trying to figure out what else I can color so I can get every dime out of every drop.
