Excellent chess set with highly detailed metal pieces
This is an excellent chess set that is fully foldable making it great for travel. The inside of the board also fits each piece snugly inside. The chess pieces are highly detailed metal pieces with some good weight to them. The game board seems to be made of wood and is fairly sturdy with a nice chess board design. The pieces are tall with narrow bases so they tend to tip over easily. I also find the dragon being a pawn to be an odd choice since I would expect a dragon to be a higher valued piece and some like knights to be a better fit for pawns. I also found a gap between the halves of the game board when fully opened to be a bit distracting. Besides the odd choice of pawn and a few other issues, this is still a great set. The medieval themed pieces look awesome and have a fine level of detail. I would recommend this to chess players who are looking for a set with cool medieval themed pieces!

Nice Chess Set!
This is definitely the nicest chess set I've ever had. I've had a wooden one for years and it's a nice chess set but the pieces look like the normal, modern pieces that chess sets always look like. I like the medieval look of these chess pieces. The rooks, knights, king and queen don't look a lot different than the normal chess pieces. The bishops and pawns look way different and it's a good different! The bishops are a soldier fully dressed in metal armor. He has a long cape going down his back. He has a big shield and sword in front of him. The pawns are a small dragon sitting on a pedestal. It will take me a while to get used to the way the bishops and pawns look. They look way cooler than normal. I'm a big Game of Thrones fan so dragons are definitely cool. I love that the pawns are dragons. Is the creator of this chess set a Game of Thrones fan? LOLThe board feels like marble. It looks nice and it feels nice. You store the pieces inside the board. The board folds in half and has clasps to lock it closed. The pieces have pre-cut places in felt inside the board that you slide the pieces into. They're wedged in place.Another difference vs. a normal chess set is normally the pieces are black and white. These pieces are metal and they aren't black and white. They're copper and bronze. I like copper better because copper has a lot of orange in it so I think the copper color looks cooler. So instead of white and black it's copper and bronze or brass in color.I highly recommend this chess set. It also has a travel bag with drawstrings that I store it in. You can just grab that bag and take it anywhere.

Strange but Beautiful
This is a beautiful set.- I love the board. It can't be real marble but it is WEIGHTY and looks and feels fantastic. I also love that it has the ranks labelled... I never really learned chess notation and this might help me understand the game descriptions I see.- I love the colors of the pieces, copper and brass. There's strong visual contrast and both sides look great. The website claims that they are scratch-resistant. This probably isn't true, but they are beautiful, heavy, and seem sturdy enough for normal use.Now for the weird:- Why are dragons the pawns? Shouldn't they be kings or queens? But this amounts to more dragons on the board, so I'll take it.- Instead of bishops and knights they have suits of armor and horses (rearing horses). Since the armor looks relatively bishop-shaped and the horse is the traditional symbol for the knight, that's how I will use them. It looks this set has knights and knights, but I don't think it will be hard to follow in play.- The rooks are long skinny realistic towers, which is very odd. But I'm okay with it, and easy to follow in play.- When I opened the set, there's a strong smell of oil from the pieces. I imagine this will fade over time, especially if I leave the set out on display. It is beautiful and deserves to be on display anyway, so that's a solid plan.Overall, it's a bit eccentric, but I like it and recommend it!

Awesome board and pieces
Great craftsmanship on the board and pieces. Dragon themed and they look elegant. Makes a great conversation piece and I love how heavy each piece is. Solid construction makes it durable. I like that the pieces have holders in the board for easy travel.

Pieces were loose, board has a strong lacquer smell. Some damage upon arrival
I got this set because I liked the high fantasy look of the pieces. The dragon pawns are the most fantastical of the set, really--the rest of the pieces are fairly standard representations and nothing else stands out. The pieces are detailed, but also not at the same time--lots of intricate work, but it is not crisp or fine, as if the molds these are cast from are losing their definition. I am really disappointed by the overall packaging and presentation of this moderately expensive ($70 at the time of this review) set. The set arrived in a flimsy cardboard box with basic, generic chess images on it--does not reflect the set that is inside at all. The board/storage box is a painted lacquer box that has a very strong odor that needs a lot of airing out--it sat in the open overnight and the paint smell is still very potent. There was a thin layer of bubble wrap around the box but it offered little to no protection, resulting in one of the corners of the box being chipped. Inside, the gold toned pieces had all fallen free of their foam insert tray and were rattling around, banging into each other. The pieces are supposed to be 'copper and bronze' colored, but they are more a gold and rose gold, and to the naked eye they are not very distinct from each other. Camera flash shows off the difference a bit better, but when playing it will not be so easy to tell whose pieces are whose. For the price of this set, I expected better packaging and more effort into protecting the pieces so they do not break free during shipping. There really is nothing special or unique about this set. I'd shop around or wait for a sale on this one.
