We’ve had this about a month now. It is easy to use and is effective at warming up a room. The purification function seems to work well and the app lets you know key measurements like air quality, temperature and filter life. We like the clean modern design and quiet operation. When oscillating, there is a slight and faint knock noise as it reaches the end of the desired oscillation angle but after a while you don’t notice it. Assembling the device was simple and was just removing some the plastic protective wraps and installing the filter. The heat function was nice to have this winter as it helped supplement the HVAC and keep my office nice and warm.

Quick-ish back story: I've always suffered seasonal allergies and been mildly allergic to dogs and cats. Three years ago we bought our first home and while it is in an inner-ring suburb, our home is atop a hill and surrounded by just enough nature to hide the fact that you are actually close to downtown. The previous owner had dogs, though the house didn't smell doggy nor was covered in hair, but none the less. I shampooed all the rugs when the house was empty and was pretty fine allergy-wise when we moved in. However, all the allergens in the air from nature really messed me up when we'd open the windows up, this past year in particular. I was so miserable and had FDR eyes (dark circles under my eyes) along with lots of eye boogers I'd never had. So I started vacuuming more and got a little air filter for the bedroom. Then this fall my wife started talking about getting a dog again and I'd been so miserable with allergies from the summer and fall I figured "How could hell be any worse?" and we got a beautiful Bordoodle in November. In preparation for the pup's arrival I decided to invest in a real deal air purifier. This arrived about 3 weeks before the puppy did and in that time I noticed a marked improvement in how I was feeling and my eyes and nose cleared up quite a bit. With that said: I love this thing! While I was worried about dropping so much coin for the actual machine and then the continued cost of new filters (which are about $100!) I was really hoping it would help me, and it did! Unfortunately when the machine arrived the expensive filter was all messed up! I contacted Amazon and they gave me credit to buy a new one. Just for the heck of it, I ran the machine with the less than optimal, damaged filter those first few weeks. So this thing performed in less than perfect conditions and STILL made a difference! Once our pup came home I put in the new filter and things got even better! While I am not "cured" I sure feel a lot better, better than I did BEFORE we got the machine OR a dog that I was slightly allergic to (after the first few weeks, I got used to our dog's brand of proteins that trigger my allergies and am fine around her now) I highly encourage the use of the washable pre-filters. The machine looks way nicer without them (in my wife's opinion) but they catch SO MUCH big dust that I can only imagine it keeps your super expensive filter running optimally for as long as designed. We usually change out the pre-filter every 2 weeks and are offended by how much dust it catches, but also glad it is going there as opposed to our furniture and noses. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase and feel the money was wisely spent as I feel much better since introducing this machine into my already pretty clean home.

The employees of Blueair I give 5 stars. The company I only give 1 star. This review will be quite long. However if you wish to purchase the Blue Air model 121 or 211, I think you should read this review. First of all I purchased the 121 purifier. I have had it more than a year, and I liked it. My wife has allergies and it helps with that. I have the purifier located in a room that is about 400 sq. ft. I have an air quality meter that tests for PM 2.5 this purifier keeps the air at about a 4 or 5. When I shut off the Purifier the air quality meter would go to about 14 in a few hours or so. If my wife sprays hairspray the meter will go to 90. This purifier will get the air back to 4 or 5 on the meter quickly. After a year I went to get a replacement filter for purifier. The manufacturer recommends replacement after 6 months. I went a year because I run the purifier on low, and the filter did not look that dirty for a long time. I purchased the filter here on Amazon. Soon as I turned on purifier with new filter it emitted a terrible smell. It smelled like dirty clothes mixed in with a sour smell. The manufacturer website says that the purifier can smell when new for a short period of time. I left air purifier on for one week and it still smelled terrible. I contacted Blueair and told them about the problem. I also told them that the new style of filters that they were sending out were using sheet carbon not pellet carbon. The purifier when new came with pellet carbon not sheet carbon. He said they knew that and the sheet carbon filters were just as good as the pellet type filters. The employee was very polite and said a new filter should not smell. So they shipped me a new filter, which I received within a week. The new filter smelled very badly also. I ran machine for 5 days and filter still smelled terrible. I contacted Blueair again. I told them this second filter also smelled badly. I asked if they could send me a pellet carbon filter and not sheet carbon. He said he would send me a sheet carbon filter again. However this filter would be from a different warehouse and should not smell. The employee was polite just like the first one. I received another new filter again within one week. This new filter was now the third filter I tried. This filter was the worst out of all the filters. It smelled like a dead animal. This filter I could not run for several days to try to air it out. Within a few minutes it made my room smell like dirty clothes mixed with garbage. It was disgusting. Even my wife said the smell was repulsive. I called Blueair again. I explained that this third filter smelled even more horrible than the others. I offered to send back to Blueair all the bad filters if they would send me a postage paid box. They said they didn’t need the filters back. You would think they would want to get the bad filters back in order to determine the problem. That means they must already know what the problem is. The employee said that they do get bad filters sent to them sometimes, but that it rarely happens. I don’t believe that. Since I got three bad filters in a row, there must be many bad filters being made. This time the employee agreed to send a filter with the pellet carbon and not the sheet carbon. Again the Blueair employee was very polite. I received a new filter within a week. The new filter I received only smelled a tiny bit. I’m hoping the smell will go away quickly. Blueair needs to get their filters from a different manufacture. Air filters are supposed to make the air you breathe cleaner not dirtier. The carbon in a filter is supposed to remove smells, not make them. This is what Blueair says on their website about the carbon in their filters. “If you are wondering how to remove odors, VOCs or gases from household chemicals and other sources from the air at home, consider an air purifier with an activated carbon filter. Combine that with reducing exposure and your home will smell as fresh as it looks – and have cleaner, healthier air”. They failed to mention on their website, that if you use their filters the air will smell like a dead animal. This is what I believe the problem to be. The filter has a paper outside and carbon inside. The carbon in this filter is a sheet and absorbs odors, VOC’s, smoke etc. It absorbs things that our gaseous. The carbon can be made into pellets or sheets. The sheets are made in a roll. The roll of carbon is then cut to size for different size filters. If the sheet carbon is ever exposed to any contamination during manufacture it will absorb them. It appears that the carbon in these filters has already been completely filled with gaseous contaminate. It is now emitting the smells that it has already absorbed. Carbon can only absorb so much gas before it becomes contaminated. After it has absorbed a large amount of gas it needs to be replaced. Otherwise it will start to release any contaminate that has been stored within the now used carbon. These filters from Blueair are worn out before you even put them in your machine. That is because the carbon has already absorbed everything it can. As an example of this, if you walk into a smoke filled room and then leave the room you will smell like smoke, because your clothes absorbed the smoke and now are releasing the smell that was absorbed. The carbon in these filters was probably clean when first made. Then the carbon rolls were relocated to a dirty smelly factory where the carbon was exposed to something that smelled very bad. Blueair told me that the bad smell of filter was nontoxic. But how do they really know that? What if the manufacture that made the filter had the carbon in a location with others items. Maybe in a factory with stored items, such as barrows of pesticide, maybe bags of manure? Who knows what this carbon has been exposed to? Sheet carbon is stored in rolls. Pellet carbon is stored in barrows or bags. A bag or barrow can keep the carbon from absorbing what is in the air. That is probably why the filter I received with pellet carbon barely smelled. When I bought the Blueair 121 purifier it had no smell when new. It was using a Carbon pellet filter. I don’t have any respect for the management within the Blueair Company. This is the reason: I know for a fact they have known about the smelly filters for a long time and have not fixed the problem. There are numerous reviews online complaining about the smell of the filters. So they have to know. This is not the employees fault. They were nice the ones talked to, but they have no control over the product. That would be the managers. No doubt the managers are trying to cut costs and don’t care whether their filters are safe or not. They need to cut all ties to current manufactures of their filters, and have them made somewhere in a clean non smelly environment. Many years ago I worked for a manufacture of paper products and hospital underpads. The Material we shipped out was many times very dirty and unsanitary. This was because we received material in rail cars that were very dirty. And the material we received was not wrapped, so it would be black on one side coming out of the rail car. Our managers did not care they would have us sand the black off and tell us to ship it out. This product we were sending out, went to hospitals and nursing homes. This happened all the time. Our CEO and DOO knew about this and did not care. We send contaminated product to hospitals quite often. It was all about the money. I think with Blueair it is all about the money. When this air purifier wears out then I will be done this company. I will never buy their products again. This $400.00 air purifier is supposed to make my health better not worse. I live in central California which has very bad air. So a good air purifier is needed. I think the company should send out a recall to anyone that has purchased filters that came from the factories that produced them. How do we know if the air coming out of the filter is actually clean and uncontaminated, when it smells so bad? Normally when something smells bad, it is bad. As a side note: I also have a Honeywell air purifier that I have had many years. It also uses sheet carbon. It has never smelled with any of the filters I have replaced.

An outstanding product which could have clearer controls.

First of all, the star rating for this product is misleading because it includes ratings from other Blueair products. If you filter by just the ComfortPure, you'll see a more accurate rating, which is definitely less than 5 stars. Secondly, I noticed a review mentioning a ticking sound from the ComfortPure, and mine does the same. Whether it's on auto or not, it starts to tick after an hour or two when in heating mode. I haven't used the app, but I do have a $120 wall unit heater that comes with an app. It heats my room just as quietly and consistently, turns off when it reaches the desired temperature, and allows for control of its heating functionality and scheduling. I really wanted the ComfortPure to work, but with all the reviews highlighting hardware issues and my unit starting to make ticking sounds after just a few days, it feels like a $500 risk. Positive: It looks great and feels great. The design is fantastic. Update: Ticking was not persistent. Not sure why it started or went away. I returned it because I had some doubt. I decided to try the smaller unit t10i. However, this came with what sounds like a loose part at the bottom of the case, perhaps for the oscillator? Not sure. Again, it’s just more doubt. Also, the t10i is all plastic whereas the t20i has this nice fabric material. I’m not sure how they ever sold the t10i for $500. Unfortunately this is getting returned because of the loose part.
