Works Great for Down Sleeping Bag
The cleaning kit w/ balls is easy to use, has a nuetral scent, and gives good loft to the down. Makes it possible to wash in home washer / dryer. Be sure to keep dryer on low heat, and pull out to rea arrange and fluff several times until completely dry. The balls become squishy with heat, and of course make a loud racket while tumbling in dryer, but they work great.

Great result
First time using Grangers Down Care Kit/Down Wash/Repel detergent as it cleaned perfectly 2 down jackets, 2 down vests and 2 rain jackets using a top load GE washer with agitator in delicate mode on both washer/dryer in cool temp washing & low temp dryer with Tennis balls kit. All gears smelled and looked fresh and cleaned using 4 full cups of detergent's cap for all the gears.

Very effective kit
I recently purchased a Rab Neutrino Plus jacket that needed a solution for musty odor. This jacket was new with tags but apparently spent some time in storage. I was stuck between the Grangers product and another commonly recommended brand. The Grangers down wash seemed to have better reviews overall so I took the chance on it. The Neutrino Plus jacket is a beefier box baffled brother to the Neutrino Endurance and Pro jackets. It's a substantial down jacket to say the least. The high amount of down made me a little nervous washing the jacket at home. However, I didn't trust any other options locally. I followed both Rabs and Grangers directions and placed it in my front loading washer. I used two cap fulls of solution placed directly in the detergent tray. After the hour long wash cycle, I used a towel to lift the jacket to the dryer. This was recommended to protect the box baffled structure in the jacket after being saturated. I placed the three spiked balls in the dryer with the jacket and ran it on low heat. I took the jacket out every thirty minutes and moved the down around in each baffle. After four hours, I had an even loftier jacket. Most importantly, the jacket now has a pleasantly neutral scent! Great product.

Made my old sleeping bag like new!
I have an 45 year old synthetic filled mummy bag. At the time of purchase it was top of the line and made in the USA. Over the years it got pretty dirty, but is still in fantastic shape. I’ve got too many fond memories, so I am unwilling to part with it. I did a lot of research on the internet and Granger kept popping up. Three capfuls in a standard top load washer set to warm and bulky items. Use the provided plastic balls in the dryer set to low. All I can say is WOW! My 45 year old sleeping bag looks brand new! I absolutely recommend this product.

Regarding use for M1949 mountain bag.
This cleaned and refluffed my m1949 mountain bag, didn't damage it or harm the feathers in anyway. And applied a light water resistant coat, I used the whole bottle. Cost was fair if you look at the cost of dryer balls separately.

Cannot remove dirt, even from a nylon-shell garment
This product cannot do what it claims to do, i.e., actually to remove dirt from a garment. To avoid ruining down, this product cannot contain the detergents needed to break the bond between dirt and fabric, even smooth nylon. I have not used this product on a down-filled garment with a cotton shell. A down-filled garment with a nylon shell can best be cleaned by using a soft bristle brush (e.g., an old toothbrush) and a liquid detergent. Use minimal water. in order to keep the detergent on the garment's surface. When light scrubbing with the brush loosens the dirt, flush the surface with clear water. This is time-consuming. But it is the only way actually to remove dirt. Note: do not add detergent to water and immerse the garment. Washing a down-filled garment in a detergent dissolved in water will surely ruin the down. Rather, hand wash the nylon shell using the soft bristle brush. Air-dry the garment.
