So I have been shaving for over 40 years and this is by far my favorite razor. Not only is it an amazing feeling to have the warm razor shaving your face and making your face feel like it’s in heaven, but even if you turned that off, it is a well built razor and has some good weight to it. It would also make an awesome gift to a dad who has everything.

I really wanted to love the Gillette Labs Heated Razor. When the razor is actually working, it is excellent. The heating element is a novel feature that feels great on the skin, and whether it’s the heat itself or just a placebo effect, I do feel like the shave quality is improved. It’s an enjoyable experience - when it works. Unfortunately, the reliability of this product is simply not ready for prime time. I delayed writing this review because I wanted to see how long a fully functional unit would last, but just last week, my third replacement razor malfunctioned. The issue seems to stem from the lithium battery; eventually, it either refuses to hold a charge or can no longer power the heating unit. This has happened to me three times now, each razor lasting only a few months despite the fact that I take meticulous care of my belongings. It is incredibly frustrating to have the razor die in the middle of a business trip, leaving me lugging around a heavy, clumsy charging dock for no reason. The only reason I am not giving this 1 star is that Gillette customer service has been responsive about sending replacements. However, at this price point (especially for the Gold Edition), you shouldn't need a replacement plan to get a decent shave. Buy this knowing there is a very high probability it won’t last more than a few months. I cannot recommend purchasing this unit. Avoid at all costs.
