Great for pretzels
Great for making pretzels, and pretzel bread. Be careful to not soak more than 15 seconds Per side. It is real acid, and can soak in the bread.

Good pure product and packaged well
I understand that this is food grade lye, but it was still kind of expensive compared to other food grade products. I just wanted to try it out for making pretzels and bagels and I had never purchased lye before. Of course purchasing a larger quantity would also save a lot of money, but I didn't plan on using it very often, and even though it's a pretty small one pound container, it's sure to last me ages. I wouldn't go dumping this down the drain without using it as a bagel bath first, but if I notice its benefits, I might try some drain cleaner quality stuff for that purpose. I do get clogs in my garbage disposal at times. Anyway, it's a nice sturdy container, and it came sealed well. The granules are small and it poured well. It was not clumpy at all. It was pure and white and consistent looking, so a very good quality product for sure. Maybe it will spark a soap making adventure since I've never tried that before LOL. I'm really happy with it, thank you for letting me try it out.

This is ONE POUND of Sodium Hydroxide and Therefore Comes in a ONE POUND Size Bottle
I am using this sodium hydroxide in solution to correct the pH of my skin care formulations when the pH is too low. It's a very strong chemical and great care should be observed when using it. That said, it's packaged well in the appropriate type of plastic bottle with no leakage upon arrival.I wasn't disappointed in the size of the bottle because I can READ and I knew that it was just 1 pound of product. Therefore, the size was appropriate for that amount. Lye that is sufficiently processed to be food grade will cost more than the lye you use for simple drain cleaning. I haven't made soap in years but if I were to get this itch, this would be perfect for that purpose. I'm far more likely to use it to make some yummy pretzels though. Glad to have this around the house. For my use it will last for a very, very long time and is a good value.

Not good for soap making
Beads were so tiny. They spilled everywhere trying to pour into a container.

Smaller than expected, but good product.
The bottle definitely appears larger in the picture than what it actually is, and so the list price of $24 seems a little steep for what you get. However, it is food grade, which I've not purchased before, so it might be standard price. I got it for drains when needed, and I haven't found any issues with it so far. Seems to be quality product, and now I'm thinking it might be too good for just a drain cleaner! Who knows, I might try to use it for a purpose that I actually need food safe lye for!

Soap-Making Mission: Activated
I got this specifically for soap making, and it's exactly what I needed. The lye comes in the form of micro pearls, which makes measuring and mixing so much easier (and less intimidating) than dealing with chunky flakes or mystery powder. The packaging is solid — the child-resistant lid is a nice safety touch, especially since this stuff definitely needs to be handled with care. It’s food-grade and super high quality, which gives me peace of mind when I’m working with it in recipes that require precision and purity.Haven’t used it for pretzels or drain cleaning (yet), but for soap? Perfect. It does exactly what it's supposed to and came exactly as described. If you’re looking for reliable lye for DIY projects, this is a great pick. Just gear up and respect the chemistry!
