Orchiata Orchid Substrate - 12-18mm Power+ (1 Quart)

I ordered the Power Plus size for a large Cattleya repotting project where you want a course bark because of the large pot size (10 inch in this case). As you can see from my comparison picture, the Power Plus blend (listed as 12-18mm) isn't really that much larger than the Power blend (listed as 9-12mm). The smallest particle size of the blend on the right should be as big as the largest particles on the left side, but clearly it is not.I don't think the seller Josh's Frogs had anything to do with this, (I've done business with them several times at their web store and they've always been great) but more of a problem with Orchiata's classifying process.At any rate, it's still good bark and you generally do want to go a size smaller with it than what you would use from say, Better-Grow bark that you find at your local home store because Orchiata is a little more water resistant, which helps it to not compost as fast.If you're using this for a large Orchid I would recommend adding an additional 10 to 15% of Extra Large size Orchiata, or some Leca or extra course Pearlite to bring the mix's aeration capacity up a bit or you risk rotting out any roots that venture into the center of the pot.

I have been very pleased with Orchiata products and had no qualms about buying this large sized chips for Cattleyas that I am growing.
