simple magnetic thickness indicator
This is simple.Non powered so nothing to go wrong really.Use it to see how thick the paint is on cars you are interested in buying or to see thinness of paint for when you want to polish the finish. You can only use it on metal so it wont work on fibreglass vehicles as it works by magnetism.Check across your panels. The shorter the extension, the thicker the paint as the magnet has more trouble getting through the paint to keep connected. The black end shows thickest, the blue is thinnestYou can check on the paint of an inside painted area like door jambs or just check a few places to find an average.Any very thick areas would indicate a possible repair because the paint wont be controlled for thickness if its been mended in the same way that paint thickness is controlled by paint spray robots.I looked up auto lak as there are no instructions with this small gauge and it comes in a plain zip lock. This version is made in China and has a plain cap without a pocket clip but appears to work the same as models shown on videos showing how to use gauges of this type.

Its OK
The principle is good and the use is easy not sure about the accuracy perhaps a stronger magnet might be better but it does the job to show filler or repainting.
