Best game ever.
This game was so fun, got it for Christmas over ten years ago and I can personally say it is one of the best games ever made. The newer super Mario bros do not compare to this original game. The new ones are cheaply made and somehow have worse graphics than this one, even though this one is 10 years older. Great product, thank you!

Nintendo Has Raised the Bar for 2-D Platforming Once Again!
In the gaming world of today where 2-D is largely a thing of the past, Nintendo, the 2-D platformer king of over two decades, has released what is likely their finest 2-D platformer to date, and that means a lot! The gameplay has been as refined as seemingly possible in a 2-D platformer. The biggest addition this game brings to the legendary Super Mario Bros. series is 4-player modes. Up to four players can work together to accomplish common goals or compete competitively. I have a nephew and niece who are 3 and 5 years old, and they LOVE this game! It truly accomplishes the feat of being fun for all skill levels. Due to seemingly simple but ingenious design mechanics, players with very little skill can play along with incredibly skilled players, and everyone can have a blast. It is simple to play but tough to master. The only thing I wish this game did is offer more of it in the way of levels and characters. Of the vast Mario universe available to Nintendo's developers, only Mario, Luigi, a yellow toad, and a blue toad are playable. My niece would have been ecstatic if she could've played with Princess Peach, for example, even as an unlockable character; Nintendo could've really did more in this area. Furthermore, a level creator and sharing system would have been amazing. But any negatives are greatly outweighed by positives. There's a reason why Japan's leading gaming publication, Famitsu (that's over two decades old), gave New Super Mario Bros. Wii a perfect score; few games have accomplished this feat in the notoriously critical gaming publication. If you like Mario games, platforming games, or even quality games or fun games, New Super Mario Bros. Wii will not disappoint. Play it and enjoy! Graphics: 9 The graphics are simple but clean, sharp, and effective. Sound: 9 The soundtrack and sound effects lack the complexity of a game like Super Mario Galaxy, but it has many timeless old favorites as well as some new, future classics. Gameplay and Control: 10 This is arguably the most important factor in a video game, and this is where Nintendo often shows their experience and expertise. The control feels as perfect as can be. Lasting Appeal: 8 The multiplayer aspect will keep you coming back again and again, but with Nintendo not likely to release new downloadable content and it lacking a level creator and sharer, this brilliant game will not last as long as it could if Nintendo put the work in that they could and should. OVERALL: 10 This is, quite simply put, 2-D platforming at its, best no matter what console you play it on. (out of 10, not an average)

Best Platformer Since Super Mario Bros. 3
I've been a fan of the Super Mario Bros. series of games since I played Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt at about age five, and when I heard that a new side-scrolling Mario platformer was coming to Wii I couldn't wait to play it. Super Mario Bros. 3 is still my favorite game of all time, but New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the first Mario title to truly rival it. Some people have been misinformed about New Super Mario Bros. Wii and believe that it is a port of New Super Mario Bros. for DS; that assumption couldn't be farther from the truth. NSMB Wii is a completely different game with entirely new stages/level designs, power-ups, world maps, newly added game mechanics, and story (although yes - Peach has been kidnapped again). The Magic Mushroom, Starman, Fire Flower, and Mini Mushroom (NSMB DS) all return, and exclusive power-ups such as the Penguin Suit, Ice Flower (which differs from the Super Mario Galaxy version), and Propeller Mushroom are available for the first time. Yoshi also shows up in various levels; though once you reach the flag pole at a stage's end Yoshi must be left behind. As far as stage designs go, you'll do everything from riding large flying sting rays, to carrying a luminescent block through a pitch-black underground level, to clearing clouds that obscure the next platform by using a spin technique. There are also MANY hidden passages, star coins to find, and alternate exits to discover. The stage environments are beautiful and colorful, the character models look great, and I haven't experienced any slow-down regardless of how much activity is taking place on-screen. Play control is exceptional, but then solid play control is a hallmark of the whole Super Mario series. You'll end up playing through levels multiple times if you want to find everything, and there are hint movies as well as an in-stage assist to aid less experienced players. The excellent single player mode is ideal for thorough exploration (and the best way to experience the game in my opinion), and the multiplayer mode is great, frantic fun for up to four players simultaneously that's sure to add plenty of replay value to an already wonderful game. I don't think you have to be a dedicated Mario fan or even an admirer of the classics to enjoy NSMB Wii (though it certainly doesn't hurt), and when it comes to fun, creative gameplay there's really no game for Wii or any other current console that I more highly recommend. I think most gamers that give this title a chance will get a lot out of it, and players like myself that will recognize returning enemies and various elements from past Mario games will benefit from nostalgia.

One of our favorite games to play with the kids. Lots of fun for both adults and kids. The graphics are fun and there are a ton of challenging levels to keep you entertained for hours.

This is exactly the game you'd expect if you've ever played one of the Mario Bros. platform titles before - it's the same scrolling from right to left concept with the same characters, the same format of worlds and Bowser confrontations at the end of each one. The important difference is that up to four people can play it at the same time - this turns it from a rather solitary and unsociable pursuit into many evenings of fun. The levels themselves are very difficult - some of the bonuses are only achievable with more than one player playing unless you are very skilled with the controller, especially the time-based collection tasks - which lead me to conclude that this was designed as a multi- rather than a single-player game. It manages to keep both types of player happy though - both dedicated ones and casual. At first there's 8 worlds to explore, but if you manage to get all the large coins then a 9th opens up for you to try (but you ned to get ALL the big coins in all other 8 worlds to progress to different stages in the final world). This adds a real longevity to the game because once you have it mastered, there's an addd incentive to get all the coins. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to play a fun game with children who have a basic level of proficiency to their gameplaying skills; it would make a great gift too. Edit: it tok me a week before I realised that if I held the 1 button down while moving, my character would sprint - and therefore jump a little further too (I wish I had known that earlier), and that if I pressed the 'a' button at times of extreme danger I would go back into my bubble and be safe (another thing I wish I knew earlier). Edit 12March 2010 - my partner and I are still playing this game, having fun looking up the location of the secret coins on youtube! A great game.
