Works fast and well
After doing a bunch of research on various topical, I settled on this one because once it is fully applied to the dog, after 24 to 48 hours, it begins to paralyze fleas within 30 minutes and they die before they can even bite or reproduce. I find this to be vastly superior to the oral medicine I used to have her on, and she scratches a lot less now.

Works best!!! I will never buy another brand for my dogs
This is the best you can get for fleas without a vert prescription. My dogs used to always get fleas every summer and I would struggle all summer long to get it under control. I use it from June to October and ever since I first tried this 2 years ago my dogs have not had fleas since then. It is a little pricey but you get several months worth in each box and I'm willing to pay if it means we don't have to deal with fleas every again. I've also used advantage 2 for cats and it works the same. The only thing I'd suggest is to not squeeze the whole tube on the dog all at once because it does take a little while to soak in the skin. I do half and then indo the other half a few hours later.

Happy Dogs, Dead Fleas and a Dirty Bed.
I have three small dogs ranging in size from 5lb to 11lb. Two have short hair and one long hair. One of the smaller dogs has a pretty severe allergy to fleas and has chewed the hair off his back in a couple of spots from this alergy. But, I've taken a while to order anything because I once had a dog become very ill from using a flea medicien. I bit the bullet and ordered this based on the amoung of good reviews, but we also did some prep work before using the advantage II for small dogs. We filled up my large bathtub with luke warm water and let the dogs soak up to their bellies - though the smallest dog is a couple inches shorter than the tallest dog - so he was swimming in all honesty. We poured water over the backs until they were thoroughly soaked. Then, we rubbed them down with dawn dishwashing liquid - the original formula without added scents. We left them sudsed up for at least 5 minutes. The fleas were already starting to drown and drop off. We then rinsed them and rained the tub. After filling the tub again, to rinse off and drown any straggler fleas, we towled off the dogs and then applied the flea med. to them as recommended on the packaging. The next morning, my bed was littered with dead fleas. The dogs sleep with me and my sheet was a solid light color, so I could see them pretty clearly. I would have to say this product works! Does it work as well if you don't pre-wash the dogs? I don't know, but I think we'll keep doing it this way from now on.

New formula does NOT work like original Advantage!!
I am so disappointed with the new Advantage. We used the original Advantage for many years, and it worked wonderfully. I recently purchased this Advantage II for my two small dogs, my yorkie and my chihuahua after we took them camping with us and they picked up fleas. Even though we live in Florida, we hadn't had a flea problem for quite some time. So I purchased Advantage II, treated my fur babies, treated and washed all their bedding, washed our own bedding, and my husband treated our back yard. The old Advantage lasted at least 4 weeks. With the Advantage II, I noticed adult fleas back on our dogs after just a week. By two weeks, they were miserable and just running with fleas. I called the Bayer hotline, and a representative assured me it was safe to reapply after two weeks, she said it could actually be applied *every week* if necessary. I don't want to put that much pesticide on my pets! And for crying out loud, who can afford 8 tubes of Advantage a month?!? (Two dogs x once a week treatment) I know I cant! So after applying the treatment to them both after only 2 weeks, I then washed everything *again*, vacuumed again, etc, and two weeks later..you guessed it! More fleas!! I am beyond fed up, everyone has flea bites, and this is costing me a small fortune. I do *not* want to use a flea medication that is taken internally by my dogs. I feel bad enough that I have to use a topical treatment to control fleas. So I really don't know where to go from here. I have been reading a lot about using Diatomaceous Earth, so I have ordered a bag of that, and that's what we are trying next. At least it's not pesticide, and it's food-grade, so it's safe. Incidentally, when I was speaking to the Bayer (the maker of Advantage) representative, she told me that the claim listed by many sellers that Advantage II "won't wash off with shampooing" is NOT TRUE!! She said ANY shampoo you use WILL decrease the effectiveness of the treatment! She said some shampoos are better than others (like the ones that don't contain harsh detergents like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate), but they ALL decrease Advantage II's effectiveness. As much as I loved the original Advantage, I'm sad to say I'm giving up on Advantage II. Time to move on.
