Read it!!! It will heal your emotional woundsđđđ
What I like about the book is her honesty that comes through her poems that are so gut wrenchingly honest and pure that your heart literally goes out for her. Anybody who has been through any kind of low like being abused, and being heart broken will find solace in her poems. This is my first Poetry book I have read, after my schooling.so I was a bit apprehensive about reading poetry that has me reaching for a dictionary and where the teacher used to break down sentences while you were in a school. Luckily that wasnât the case here as her poems are so simple that it leaves an indelible impression on your soul.âtrust your bodyit reacts to right and wrongbetter than your mind doesâ-Rupi KaurâI do not need the kind of loveThat is drainingI want someoneWho energises me â â Rupi KaurI read this book in Jan,but I couldnât bring myself to write a review as I was speechless as to how some one can convey so much in a mere sentences still trumps me. No wonder Ms kaur has Million followers on Instagram Account. This amazing book of poems takes the reader through 5 different stages people go through before they bloom into their highest version of themselves, such as Wilting, falling,to take root, rise and blooming ..just like flowersâŚthere are others poems about the one,the right kind of love and what love looks like etc that will leave you dumbstruck and in awe of Rupi Kaur. The layout of the book is simple and her own illustrations add more depth to her poems. Advice to my fellow readers:please buy print version bcz you need to catch your breath after being hit by such profound wordsâŚ.and reading print book gives you time to reflect and let those words sink into your pyche and let your mind wander and wonder. Poetry was the only genre missing in my reading list & thanks to Rupi I seem to have fallen in love with poetry and hopefully this will effect my reading choices in future too. This was the first book I read in 2018 and it was such a beautiful way to start new year I guess.Do read this book of poems that will touch your soul and also heal and nourish a part of your soul that only beautiful poetry can fill.Read it ,it will heal your wounds.Amazon: keep up the good work guys I got my copy on the next day itself!!!(prime benefits)

The recipe of life is gracefully related to the content and titles of the chapters.
"Sun and her flowers" is a collection of powerful poetry about grief, self abandonment, honoring oneâs roots, love and empowering oneself. The author has related the five chapters of the book to the title in an alluring manner. She relates her poetry to the flowers we plant in our garden, like those delicate flora we too must wilt, fall, root and rise in order to bloom. The recipe of life is gracefully related to the content and titles of the chapters. My suggestion would be to read Rupiâs books slowly and absorb the emotional depth of her poems. Along with the writings, do not forget to appreciate her simple illustrations which are exquisitely linked to the essence of her poetry. I highly recommend this poetry book to everyone and specially to the ones who want to start reading poetry. The poems are simple sentences broken up with spaces making it an easy read. Her writings are so relatable and strong especially for Indians and Indian nationals who have moved to other countries.

Brutal but heartfelt!
Rupi Kaurâs first book Milk and Honey was the first modern poetry book that I read and I loved it. That book was a huge success. So when I found out about her new book I instantly pre-ordered it and when it arrived I read it immediately too (yes only the review is late đ ). I had really great expectations from this book as well, and I would say that though not AS GOOD AS Milk and Honey, it was quite close to it and I totally enjoyed it (enjoyed in a sad way? ). This collection is an extension of Milk and Honey. If you are not familiar with Rupi Kaurâs work, then you would find these poems as just written sentences broke abruptly in between. But I guess, thatâs the beauty of her writing? I really like how her words fit perfectly together in her poems. This poetry collection was however quite longer than Milk and Honey. The Sun and Her Flowers is split into five sections: wilting, falling, rooting, rising, and blooming. Each section tackles a different theme. I love how she has compared each section to a flowerâs life.Wilting deals with grief â when a flower is about to die.Falling is for self-abandonment â when a flower loses all hopes of livingRooting deals with honoring oneâs roots â like a new flower preparing its roots to rise againRising is for love â the flower is ready for living againBlooming for empowering oneself â flower blooming and living againWith each of these sections, Rupi has presented her own traumatic experiences. She is not shy about those experiences, rather she has written about them in a way that you would want to feel her pain. If you are an Indian or belong to a South Asian country, then you can relate to many of her experiences. Being an Indian, I perfectly related to the sections where she talked about infanticide and feminism, which are a kind of big issues here. She talked about her relationship with her mother. I loved the poems in which she talked about her mother and the struggles her mother faced. Those were my favourites I guess.I have never been out of India so probably I canât experience the exact emotions of an immigrant. But I guess, I can understand them and Rupi Kaur did a nice job in telling those immigrant experiences. She has added an entire section about immigrants and refugees. You can feel the depth of those and can actually relate to them.Feminism has always been a big part of her poetry and this book was no exception. All that feminism talk actually make you feel motivated. I really liked how she talked about the women being oppressed in her culture (particularly in Indian culture). Those aspects that she talked about are very important to our present situation I guess. She included topics like rape culture, slut-shaming and how people often oppress the girl power. Some things can definitely offend you, but those are brutally honest. I loved the talk about female feticide in India.I love the illustrations. All of her illustrations combine so beautifully with her poetry. You will feel so many emotions at once.. sadness, love, frustration, anger, happiness, self-loathing..Despite having all these positive points, I guess there were some problematic areas too. I felt that some of the poems were not original. I am not sure of this, but a few felt as if she has taken it from somewhere. Also, there is a lot of sex talk and a few such illustrations too. So if you are not okay with it, you should skip this. Also, I felt that a few poems about feminism, the body, the heartbreak, and self-love were repetitive. All in all, this was really a beautiful and brutal collection of poetry. You will feel connected to Rupi Kaur, especially if you are an immigrant or brown-skinned person. It talks about so many different themes and will make you feel belonged. While Milk and Honey was focused on feminism and self-love, The Sun and Her Flowers is much more than that. And the metaphors using flowers is beautiful. If you have already read Milk and Honey then you should definitely pick it up for a different experience, and if you havenât read her first book, then also you should pick it up for enjoying Rupiâs style of poetry.
