It all depends on your individual hair requirement. Castor Oil & Coconut Oil are both Carrier oils, i.e. they are base oils which nourish your hair, strengthens hair strands, moisturise the scalp & hair & basically provide your hair with the basic nutrients to aid in growth of healthier hair. Also, both Castor Oil & Coconut Oil acts as a diffuser for Essential Oil (oils prepared for addressing a specific hair issue, such as Rosemary Oil is useful in improving the blood circulation in your scalp, thus helping rejuvenate hair follicles or Pumpkin Seed Oil useful in blocking DHT, responsible for male pattern baldness), so is a must in any hair care regimen. I have been using both Castor & Coconut Oil alongwith Rosemary Oil & it has really helped not only control my hair fall but has also aided in hair growth. One benefit of Castor Oil is that it helps thicken the individual hair strands, so if your hair is thin & wispy, then it will over a period of time thicken it. Finally, all depends on your own specific hair requirements, so study the benefits of each Oil you wish to use from the Internet & then try it out.
