I've used ON several times before especially during cutting. It gives a good result for sure. But I presume ON has changed their formula recently( read about this in Amazon.us). This time everything is fine except the severe aftertaste it gives. before talking about the product in detail let me put my few cents about identifying the authenticity of the product, enough has been said about this already but still for the noobies like me 😊, to make their life easy, we will cover it once again. If you are in a hurry you can straight away skip to the end of this review and read the verdict. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ON Gold Standard doesn't have a protective seal on the opening of the tub, unlike other brands. So don't panic if you open the cap to find a tub without a seal. There are a lot of people freaking out in the review section about this. This product is returnable( but still make sure it is before buying). So instead of panicking and giving a negative review go through the things I mentioned below and make sure the authenticity of the product and if still you are not satisfied you can return the product. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ✔️Gold Hologram: ON gold series will have a golden hologram patch on the plastic band with "ON", logo clearly visible. Refer the picture attached ✔️Scoop with ON's branding: The handle of the scoop will have "ON", logo. Look out for that. ✔️The tub wrap material: The tub wrap will be glossy and keep a close watch on the quality of fonts. In duplicate products, I've noticed the tub wrap having more of a matt finish. ✔️Under cap protection: There is a white under cap protection. It is not glued and you can take it out easily. If it's glued then you can be pretty much sure that the product is fake. ((Source:ON Website)) ✔️Made in USA embossed under the cap: If you take out the under cap protection you could see the "made in USA", embossed. Fake products usually don't have this. ✔️Expiry date: The expiry date and batch code are printed below the tub in blue colour. The shelf life of the product is 2 years so the dates should 2 years apart. For instance, if the manufacturing date is 12/17 then the expiry date should be 12/19 (2 years from the manufacturing date) [ Source: ON website] ✔️Mailing ON with the lot number and expiry date: This is by far the simplest and most effective way to find out the authenticity of your product. Just email them with a picture of the bottom of your tub with the expiry date and lot number clearly visible. They will get back to you with the news. ✔️Scan the barcode using any QR scanner app: Scan the barcode of the product, copy the barcode and google it. It should take you to a page with the exact details of the product and once you are there check the "Last Scanned" time. If you ordered it on 04-09-18, the last scanned time would be after that 4th August. If it's scanned long before that then something is fishy. Moreover, the page will display the details of the store through which it's being sold. In this case, it will be Amazon.com or Amazon.in(Pics attached for reference) ✔️Importer sticker: The official importer of. ON( All glnabia products) in India is Bright commodities. Check the importer sticker with a hologram and a scratch code. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ If you do your share of due diligence you can avoid getting scammed. I always buy from Cloudtail, never had a problem so far. There might be some other good vendors here but I can't really recommend anyone other than Cloudtail India if you are buying from Amazon. If you are buying from other vendors be sure to check their rating and feedback. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Now let's come back to the product and it's efficacy ⏹️Mixability: 4/5 As always, the mixability is so good. It mixes very well without leaving any residues or lumps. Even a 10-20 seconds shake is more than enough to get it dissolved completely. Even in a glass of water, it mixes well. ⏹️Taste: 3/5 Before they changed the formula I loved their flavours. Now I get a very sweet aftertaste in my mouth which stays in your mouth for a very very long time. If you don't mind the aftertaste then you are good to go. When you gulp it down it's tasty the only issue for me is the aftertaste hence giving a 3/5. ⏹️Result: 4.5/5 You all know ON isolate is best used for cutting. If you are bulking then I don't really recommend it. It's ok for bulking if your diet is spot on. I always got results from ON. I take 2 scoops a day coupled with Creatine and citrulline malate. If you are a beginner then I would suggest you go for Ultimate Nutrition Prostar, Myprotein ( Incredible value for money). If you have the budget for it then Muscletech is good. And again if you are not lactose intolerant then don't bother going for isolate. There are numerous people out there who say isolate is best but I beg to differ. You cannot really justify the extra money you pool in for buying an isolate IMHO. Ultimately it's your body and your call. If you love Isolate then, by all means, go for it. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ VERDICT: To sum it up: ON is a great product if you want to gain lean muscle. I use it mainly during my cutting cycle and I believe it's best suited for cutting. It's very easy on your stomach, it won't give any bloating or digestive issue. Very high-quality whey protein. The only downside is it's a little bit heavy on your pocket. But trust me this is one he!! of a protein. For the budget conscious you have Ultimate Nutrition and Myprotein both are great value for money products. I'd recommend all these brands than Indian brands. Ps: I've tried almost all the brands including Indian brands. Most of the Indian brands gives me bloating and digestive issues. I have no intention of defaming Indian brands. If you’re planning to purchase this product, I request you to please read this review and key pointers for gauging product authenticity. I’m writing this review as many of other reviews are passing off even genuine products as fake owing to limited/wrong information. Before I go further, let me tell you that Optimum Nutrition (ON) Whey Protein is one of the best and most trusted products in the market and is used extensively by people hitting the gym. Hence, you don’t need to doubt the product itself, since it has proven its worth over time. When you first receive the product, Please make sure to take pictures of the box from all sides. Take zoom in picture of the Expiry Date / Batch Number. The simplest way to check for authenticity of the product is to mail the pictures to Optimum Nutrition Customer Care [Please visit the official site for contact details] on their USA customer care as well as India specific customer care (both available on official website). They work from 9vAM to 5vPM USA time, Monday to Friday, so don’t expect a response outside of this time. Also, please reduce the size of each image or else the server will reject the message due to the large size. My first message with an attachment of 18MB was rejected by the server and I had to send it again. You need to mention below details while messaging the customer care - - Product Name - Size - Flavour - Name of the place of purchase and location (address or URL) - Country where you purchased - Seller Name or Item identification number (if purchased from an online marketplace) - Lot Number - Expiration Date - Last 5 Digits of Bar Code - Pictures of Batch Number / Exp Date / Mfd Date - Pictures of Front and back of the canister / Importer Label / Bar Codes / Invoice Copy Customer Care should revert within 1-2 business days with details on whether the product is authentic or not. In my case, they reverted within 2 days. The second step is to check for product authenticity through Bright Commodities site (if your product has been imported by Bright Commodities). Please check the box, there would be a label with importer details, a QR Code and a Scratch box on top. Scratch this box to reveal your unique product code. Now use a QR Code scanner through a smartphone, and you would land on bright commodities site, and you need to fill out a small form, and submit this unique code. On Submit, it will tell you if the product is genuine or not. In the case of genuine products, it’ll show: “Congratulations. Your product is genuine.” This is a sure shot way to verify if your product is genuine or not. Now, coming to ON certified methods of checking product authenticity. ON website mentions just 4 things to check if the product is authentic or not: 1. NECK BAND – Gold Standard whey protein has a black plastic neckband and a gold hologram seal. This seal is part of the neckband itself and is NOT a separate sticker. On tilting, you would see colorful ‘ON’ written within the seal. 2. TUB DESIGN - The crease on the bottom of U.S. made tubs of protein is a mold mark from plastic thermoforming. It looks the same on every tub and is normal. However, please note, Tubs produced in the U.K. have a circular indentation without a line running across the bottom. This is normal for European made tubs. 3. DATE & BATCH CODE - On the BOTTOM or SIDE of protein tubs you’ll find ink jet printing listing a manufacture date, expiration date, and batch code. Powdered products have a 2-year shelf life, so the dates should be 2 years apart. This date is printed usually in Blue (mostly) or yellow color. Also, if you rub over it too much, it’ll be removed. 4. VACUUM BARRIERS - Under the cap of protein tubs is a cardboard vacuum barrier that helps hold the powder in place during shipping. This round disk is not for sanitation and is not glued into place. It is common for the cardboard to stick under the cap. So, using a knife or any sharp thin thing, you can remove this white colored cap. Underneath (on the plastic cover of the box), you will see ‘Made in USA’ if the product is manufactured in the USA. Some other pointers to safeguard against duplicate product - 1. Powder Texture – Gold Standard whey protein powder texture is such that it doesn’t stick to the insides of the box. When you open the box, powder should not be sticking to the side walls of the box. [See attached pictures of how it should look] 2. Mixing - Gold Standard whey protein powder readily mixes with water without forming any lumps. If your product is forming lumps even after a lot of mixing and shaking, it is a fake product. 3. Powder Scoop – Every box comes with one scoop inside, which would have ON branding and would be of Golden color. Even the scoop mentions ‘Made in USA’ [Please check attached pictures] 4. Black Neck Band would be glossy/shiny in texture SOME MYTHS & WRONG INFORMATION. Below points DO NOT make your product fake. 1. The black band does not have ‘great taste, new improved etc’ printed all over like shown on the official website’s product authentication page. ON website doesn’t mention anything about printed neck bands, it simply mentions black plastic neckband. Even on ON official website, on the product page, it shows the box with a simple black band. Even biggest USA retailer websites, they would show product with a simple black band. Hence, please don’t get misguided by some other reviews where they proclaimed a product to be fake based on this point. My product has been verified as 100% authentic by the company, you can see the pictures. 2. Box mentions ‘ISOLATE’ instead of ‘ISOLATES’. Across ON official website, you would see products with ‘Isolate’ mentioned (See various sections like 10lb product image, recipe images etc). Top US retailers show the same imagery with ‘Isolate’ mentioned instead of ‘Isolates’. My product was verified as authentic by the company, it mentions ‘isolate’. 3. There is no QR Code on my box, and only importer QR code is shown. These products are manufactured especially for export for certain markets. For example, products imported by bright commodities are specially manufactured to be exported to India, hence you would even see ‘FSSAI’ mentioned near the box bar code whereas FSSAI is an Indian standard. My product has been verified by the company itself, there’s no QR code as it’s for Export only, and you can see the pictures. 4. Box shows green Veg symbol and there is no such concept in the US. These products are manufactured especially for export purpose and hence follow the standards of the destination country. 5. Nutrition information is quite shorter and less informative, while on official web picture it is mentioned as ‘Nutrition Facts’ and more descriptive. No, this does not make your product fake. These products are manufactured especially for export for certain markets such as India. The company is following the standards as per Indian market and as per laws laid down by the Indian government, regarding ‘Nutrition Information’. Pick any consumable product being sold in India, as per rule, ‘Nutrition Information’ needs to be mentioned as opposed to the USA, where ‘Nutrition Facts’ terminology is being used. This is the same reason why on these products, weight is mentioned in ‘g/Kg’ before being mentioned in ‘lbs’. 6. My box is not completely filled with protein powder. Whey protein is sold by weight not volume, and the box is usually larger than the contents it is supposed to hold. It will roughly cover 65-75% volume of the box and would never be completely filled. That’s all friends. I hope now you would be in a better state to confirm if your product is genuine or fake. I hope I was able to help you out. When I was buying this product for the first time, I was equally confused. However, with above-mentioned points, you can safeguard yourself against duplicate products. Thanks.

I have had ON Gold Standard Whey, many times in the past, that i had purchased from 'Neulife' stores. At that time 'Neulife' was the only importer for India, but now we have many importers for India. Check this URL and you would find for yourself the names of importers. [...] This time i decided to buy from Amazon (seller MyNutraMart), and after using it for 5-6 times, i am posting this review for the one i bought from Amazon. 1. ON Hologram at the jar's neck: This hologram is one of the many ways in which i established it is a genuine product. I have also attached a picture of this with this review. 2. Importer's Hologram at the Jar: There is a sticker on the jar which specifies the price, manufacturing date, expiry, batch no, and specifically importer's name in hologram. See pictures. 3. Texture of whey: Since i have used genuine one in the past, i know for sure that this one is genuine by looking and feeling the texture, granularity of this whey. 4. Mix-ability with water/milk: The genuine ON that i used in the past used to dissolve away completely in water/milk in just three shakes very easily, which was the same with this one too. It dissolved quickly in water and milk, leaving no residue behind. I quickly added points in favour of genuineness. 5. Taste: This is the one criteria that helped me firmly establish the genuineness. Having had similar flavour in the past from genuine ones, this was the best way to realize genuineness. Taste is the ultimate judge of real ON. It tasted exactly same :-) 6. Packing/ON labelling/Text and verbiage on the jar: The fonts, font color, text Size, verbiage which i found on this jar was exactly the same as the genuine one from past. One thing which i was worried about was the new verbiage at the bottom which said "BANNED Substance Tested", which i found on a picture at ON's website but it was not there on my jar. Later i found out that ON had added it only recently, i guess to conform to Anti-Doping Agency guidelines/standards. 7. Aftertaste or Aftereffects: The aftertaste that i had after having this ON reminded me of the one from past, additionally, i had no bloating or cramps. I said to myself "Yes, it is genuine". I have been using ON Protein for quiet few years and has been imported all the time. But now since ON has outsourced it's manufacturing in India for Indian customers to save shipping costs, there has been lot of changes in the product itself. Firstly, this is not fake! However it's not as satisfactory as US based ones. As shown in the first image, the color of Indian based ON Protein is dark, has unpleasing odour and taste awful. I say this because we choose Protein based on taste and smell which has been amazing with ON. However they couldn't retain that here. I again ordered one from Canada (second image) this is as good as before and costs cheaper there. So it's expensive to buy it here and now product is pathetic. Secondly, results may be similar as I have consumed almost the entire box and there have been no side effects and no downgrades. Overall, if you love your same old ON premium Protein, get it imported from a trusted source or go with this one of taste smell quality is no big deal. Truth be told - This is *the best* protein supplement only if you buy it from the certified retailer - cloudtail. Any flavour will do! That's the only piece of feedback I can suggest for the review of this quality #1 product. Do your research and that's the conclusion you will come to ! Pros- 1. Weight per weight this has the highest protein content of any product. Some people buy protinex which is cheaper but per weight unit, it's expensive. Check YouTube video on this! 2. Having this (1 scoop) with cold milk daily in the morning keeps my stomach occupied till lunch time. No more breakfast needed. This is particularly so since am not working out! 3. People who are vegetarian, our protein intake is very low and this makes up for the deficiency! 4. This is a vegetarian product for all those who are wondering! Whey is an extract of milk. For every 10 litres of milk, you get approx. one glass of whey! Now you know why it's expensive. Obviously this brand is imported so tax is additional! Dont go for cheap domestic brands! 5. Genuine product assurance from cloudtail 6. Lasts me almost 3 months Cons- 1. Very expensive Tips- 1. Buy a shaker or a sealed Tupperware product to mix it well with milk or water. Just mixing using spoon wont do justice. It needs s rigorous shaking around to mix it well 2. Have it with cold milk than water. It tastes absolutely yummy with milk. 3. Have it in the morning than any other time of the day 4. If you are having whey daily ensure you drink plenty of water (plenty means at least 3 or 4 litres daily). There are risks of not doing this.
