Charles Dickens Collector's Set 2 (Bleak House / The Old Curiosity Shop)

There isn't even an option to return or exchange this product. The Bleak House sticks at one particular part on Episode 10 and we could not no matter what we did get past it. We had to go to the next disc and missed a good part of w hat happened at the end of disc 2. They should allow for returns or exchanged!

Bought this early for a Christmas present so it was just opened recently. The second disc is messed up and doesn't play the beginning and end of the disc. Too late now to return. :(

This was a good deal for the money. I really liked Bleak House but I have never read the book so don't know how it compares. The acting in both was excellent especially, Gillian Anderson. I didn't really care for the story of the Old Curiosity Shop but it is worth the money for Bleak House.

Was somewhat disappointed. I love Bleak House and was looking forward to adding it to my library. This set was to replace the original set, because the original collector's set, Episode 6 on the second disc skips and then freezes after several mintes into the episode. Apparently, all of the collector's sets have the same problem, because this set skipped and froze on Episode 6, as well. In frustration, I ended up ordering Episode 6 from the Amazon online library only to find that the episodes in the library do not line up with the episodes on the disc, so I ended up purchasing Episode 4, as well. They were only a little less than $3 a piece, but I shouldn't have had to purchase them in the first place. All of the other episodes are great so, buy the collector's set at your own risk.

This is a superb BBC re-telling of the Charles Dicken classic. The whole cast is impressive, and the screenplay contains most of the wonderful characters, and the dialogue that Dickens wrote for them.Gillian Anderson is superb, gaunt and tragic, as Lady Dedlock, a woman with a secret in her past.Charles Dance is menacingly powerful as the uncoverer of this secret, and Phil Davis gives an astounding performance as the corrupt landlord, involved in shady business affairs.I would thoroughly recommend this film to all lovers of Charles Dickens, but it is not necessary to even know the works of this great author, to appreciate this version of Bleak House.

I had originally owned a complete Dickens set which had several discs which skipped and/or would not play certain episodes. So I decided to purchase them all again separately. I only recently watched Bleak House and found that Disc 2 is worthless. Episode 6 will not play at all and Episode 10 skips and stops so badly that it is impossible to watch. Do not buy this set! So disappointing and a waste of money.

Bleak House is absolutely amazing. I first watched it on Prime instant video and fell in love. I was waiting for a time when I could grab it up at an affordable price, and then I saw this collectors set with The Old Curiosity Shop included!! The costumes, acting and screen play of these 2 Dickens tales are masterpieces and I am very glad I added them to my period/costume drama collection. I highly recommend anyone who LOVES these British period pieces to snatch up this collectors set!!

Just opened up to watch this after owning for several years and found that disc 2 was damaged.

I had already seen Bleak House and loved it. It my favorite Dickens book and all the elements of the adaptation work. I have little nitpicks but that is normal for any adaptation. If you want to see a wonderful story, great cinematography and amazing acting, this is an adaptation for you. The downside was Old Curiosity Shop. This is my second favorite Dickens book. I was a little leery when I saw it was just one disc while Bleak House is three. It worried me that they were condensing way too much in so little time. It starts off great. I loved the look and the acting. But all too quickly the short-cuts came in, racing the adaptation to its conclusion. Which, for me, was absolutely horrific. This story is a tragedy but BBC decided to give it a happy ending. This, for me, has made this adaptation a one-watch event. If you haven't read the book, you might enjoy it but be a little confused at time. For me, in hindsight, I should have just bought Bleak House

loved both these movies - however, not sure whether I liked this version of Bleak House better than the one with Diana Rigg & Denholm Elliott - they are both great . The Old Curiosity Shop was wonderful - enjoyed it very much. Shirley C.
