An amazing starting point to making paint
I have been daydreaming about handmaking watercolor paint for a long time. I saw this set and loved the idea of the non-toxic paints and the sample sizes large enough to make up a decent amount, and with a fantastic price point to start dipping my toes into the paint making world. I love the range of colors and although I have added colors to my collection since then from other sources, this was such a fantastic base selection of colors. The paints I made are rich and lovely and a joy to work with. There were only a few minor qualms I had, which were pretty minor, all things considered. The first is that a few of the colors have an odd texture that after some experience required a little more finessing. The Mayan Red, the Brilliant Yellow, the Terra Verte and the Turquoise all required a little bit more honey/glycerine added to the normal amounts of binder to give it a better texture for rewetting. This was all part of my trial and error, but in adjusting it the next batch turned out really well. The other minor qualm, which actually came more from one of the reviews than from the company itself, was that I went into it expecting that I would get 6 or so half pans of each pigment. In mixing equal parts pigment to binder I found that many if not most of the pigments actually gave 4 to 4 and a half half-pans of paint. That meant that as I was getting started I set up and poured into 5 half pans for each paint I mulled up, only to find I was only able to get them filled about halfway. So I actually ended up buying a second set of the pigments to be able to finish topping off those half pans. With two sets of pigments purchased I was able to solidly fill about 8 full half pans plus a little more for a few of the colors. As I say, this qualm was more about proper expectations and not expecting to get a large number of pans from each little packet of pigment. That being said, even with "only" 4 and a half full sets, it is still an amazing value, and being able to have handmade paints made with professional pigments for such a reasonable price is astounding to me. In summary, this is an excellent value, makes quality paints and I highly recommend it if you wanted to start making paints.

Expensive, but a fair deal considering the watercolor paints you make are pro
I’ve made a few of the paints using my own medium and they all turned out very nice. The price is high, but I believe it’s fair because you get a good amount of usable paint and get to try all their colors. Most granulate nicely and the colors are pure and I mostly intense. These are artist level, permanent pigments.

Great for watercolor paint
These pigments are great to use for watercolor paints. It’s the best price for the most variety of natural earth pigments if you don’t need a lot of pigment. Each package contains about 2 tsp of pigment, which can make about 6 half pans of watercolor paints (give or take). Most colors are a strong pigment, others are not very strong just because of their makeup. Each package is labeled with its name, also DickBlick sells this and you can look on their website if you are interested in additional pigment information. This is a fun but messy project to make your own paints. I even used these pigments along with tube watercolor paints where I wanted to change the color and it works great.

Great pigments, not as good of packing
Great pigments for making your own watercolor paints. Wish they came in resealable bags since you only use a tiny bit at once. I transferred them all to tiny zipper bags. A messy process but worth it it to save the extra pigments!

Great kit!
This is probably not at all how most people would use this product or how the company intended but I had bought a mammoth molar that was broken into hundreds of pieces and needed some serious repairs. I needed natural earth colors that mixed in well with my consilidants and this product fit the bill well. For my use the color quality was amazing and I felt the amount of product was very good. All I would say is that I wish the little baggies were resealable.

Excellent quality powders
These have been great. I've used them for making my own furniture waxes and craft paints. They are excellent for this purpose. My only disappointment is that I cannot find this brand of earth pigments in a larger size on Amazon. I'd like to buy the larger sizes of the colors I use most.

Not good for tinting white fence paint
Nice but did not do what we wanted, color was too pale, needed larger quantity. We were painting our fence as mural. Just did not fit our need, but the fault of the product
