The down bag I’ve been waiting for
I’ve had numerous Kelty sleeping bags (and other gear) over the years including several down bags. As I’ve gotten older, mummy-shaped bags just weren’t working for me. I am a side sleeper who likes to be able to move my legs around. I wanted a down bag spacious enough to be comfortable, light enough for backpacking (my main use), warm enough for 4-season use (in my location), and that wouldn’t break the bank. I’d considered getting a Nemo Disco 15 long this summer, but they’re a little more than I wanted to spend. Enter the Kelty Supernova. I purchased the 20 degree long bag. I am 6’1” and 220 pounds. While I have yet to camp with it, I have gotten inside it and it’s like manna from heaven. Very spacious. I can turn over and move around easily. I can pull my knees up to my chest if I wanted to… and yet it doesn’t feel like there is “wasted” space in the bag. I will update after my first field use. I am planning some trips here in Oklahoma where the temps are warm this time of year, but am doing a trip to the Jewel Basin in NW Montana this July (elevation 6,000 feet), which should be an excellent test of the Supernova’s quality.Update (7/29/2024) I did a 3 day hike through the Jewel Basin in NW Montana two weeks ago. The temperatures were in the 80s during the day and 50s at night, which admittedly wasn’t much of a temperature test for this bag. That said, I was extremely pleased with its performance. The zipper goes all the way around the foot box, which allows you to open it up and use it more like a quilt, which worked perfectly in my situation. As I said in the earlier portion of my review, the bag is roomy even when fully-zipped. I plan to do Eagle Rock Loop in central Arkansas this fall, which should offer a better “temperature test” for the bag. So far, I am very pleased with the Supernova.

Nice bag
I have used the sleeping bag several times now and it's quite comfortable... Although even camping at 7000 feet in the high Sierra, it has not been that cold yet... But I still believe it will do the job well... I always complain a little bit about zippers because I used to have a Sierra Designs sleeping bag years ago and it seemed like the zipper was twice as big and never got hung up... This bag has a nice zipper baffle, but you do have to be a little careful zipping and unzipping.

Super light weight warm sleeping bag
This sleeping bag is perfect for cooler camping I don't think I would use it in summer unless the temperature gets below 70s as it would be too warm. This would be perfect for spring/fall camping even leaking into winter rated up to 20 Degrees Fahrenheit. Love the cellphone pocket or flash light pocket in the side of the bag and the fact that you can open the top and the bottom and connect it to another one if you have a partner you want to join in with. It stores very easily into the water resistant pack.

have not tested camping yet; seems like a nice bag
Note: I have only pulled bag out and tested inside home. Will update once I take it camping in a few weeks, if weather cooperates.I needed a new sleeping bag. My current one is very old & synthetic fibers. I like this one is smaller to retain heat better. Size seems like it will work since I toss & turn all night. Soft. No real pillow....just a horizontal bag at head with a little down. I carry a pillow anyway since I do not backpack only dispersed camping. I could not zip up the bag with one hand. Had to hold zipper with one & pull with other. Have to be careful not to snag material since is is wider to keep heat inside around the zipper. Like everything you buy in a bag it is almost impossible to get back in original bag. I finally got it in. I like the material over flap to protect the top since you cannot pull the drawstring completely closed. Rolling up & packing was very difficult for me, alone, with arthritic hands. I will probably use another stuff sack for storing that will be easier to just stuff it in & not worry about folding, compressing, rolling, & stuffing in small bag.I think this sleeping bag will work well for me while tent camping in CO, UT, AZ. Will update if any issues once I am able to camp.

What a nice sleeping bag
I have a 15° down quilt that I usually take backpacking so that's what I typically compare things to. This is a really nice sleeping bag. The fill power is better if I understand it correctly so it thinner than my quilt but works just about as good. I think there must be more fabric though because it does not compress nearly as small as my quilt, even with it being the regular size. Granted, I think my quilt compresses smaller than anything else I have owned or seen. This bag is also very light too.Very well designed as you would expect from a brand like Kelty. Nice foot box. It has a baffle that falls around your neck to keep warmth in. Multiple ties. A phone pocket inside it as well. I like the way the fabric feels. It's a little noisy, but that doesn't bother me as much as some people. I won't be able to say how warm it really is for a few more months. But I'm really looking forward to it. It's really nice sleeping bag.
