Columbia Classics 4k Ultra Hd Collection Volume 5 - 4K + Blu-ray + Digital [4K UHD]

I received this newly-released Columbia Classics Ultra HD (4K and HDR) Collection Vol. 5 set today, dropped the Tootsie 4K disc into the Sony X800 4K player tray, and pushed play. I have loved this gender-twisting, barrier-breaking romance, situational comedy since seeing it on initial release. It is a hilarious classic, to be sure.Based on what I saw of this new Tootsie 4K, I am compelled to report that I feel astonished by the aural and visual presentation qualities of the HDR-, 4K-, and audio-remastered transfers. The disc appears and sounds, in a word, superb. I sat down to watch five minutes and instead viewed the entire first half of the film. I couldn't resist, despite my wife being home early from work.Also, owning and having recently watched the Tootsie Criterion Bluray set, I switched to that 2K release from my movie shelf. Well, the two barely compare. The images and sounds are drastically different and unequivocally in favor of the Sony-Columbia 4K release. But, I couldn't have even imagined this much because Criterion already has such a fine reputation with me for treatment of classic movies, and the exponential upgrade gets a further exponential upgrade. These releases are miles apart--kilometers, outside the United States. The 4K has a new 7.1 ATMOS track (additional to the original mono track) against the monophonic Criterion 2K, and the 2K image looks drastically-bright against the subtle exactness of the Tootsie 4K.Anyway, I have yet to compare the rest of the new Sony 4Ks here to the two other Criterion 2K sets and the Twilight Time 2K, limited edition of Man for All Seasons, which is a film I've admired for decades. But, this first test hits me so obviously that I am very pleased with just this preliminary portion enough to express my surprise satisfaction as to the level of improvement.This Columbia 4K Vol. 5 caused me to pre-order for what titles are in it and for Sony's excellent reputation of the treatment in making great, restorative remasters. Regarding the titles here, my two main reasons for pre-ordering this set are how cinematically-beautiful Scorsese's Age of Innocence is and the influence Man for All Seasons has given me. And, Tootsie and On the Waterfront having their greatness are worthy, despite the latter being a black-and-white, older classic. Little Women's inclusion rides on that director's popularity, Greta Gerwig, for also directing the new, blockbuster Barbie movie, and the sixth one is another old movie, but one having received a Best Picture Oscar.The issue that obviously concerned me is that I already held those four aforementioned titles in their best-available and already-excellent editions before this 4K set's release. So, Tootsie, being the excellent situational comedy it is and having yet such an exponential improvement means my preliminary report to be that the set is very worth my investment of on-hand cash. I don't know if I could have spent it better for any other new release.

These movies all needed 4k upgrades and they all look fantastic! This is a nice selection of movies, though I would have preferred an older version of Little Women as the Saoirse Ronan version already has an excellent bluray. These disc's all have great special features as usual with these sets. IMHO this set has one of the better film selections, so hopefully Sony keeps up the good work. This set comes highly recommended.

I purchased this set for my son for Christmas. He was super excited and loves the movies included in this set. Great price as well. I’d recommend this purchase for sure!
