I saw the Varimixer at a professional catering equipment demo years ago and remember it being very powerful and very quiet – two things that rarely go together in mixers! It’s all down to the variable gears apparently (hence vari-mixer) so when you turn up the speed the motor stays the same noise but the paddle moves faster. I had no chance of affording one back then and couldn’t believe it when I saw it arriving on Amazon. If there has been any changes since I saw it years ago I’ll be surprised as it looks almost identical and is built like a tank. The same gearbox system makes it really quiet, almost eerily so if you have had cheap mixers in the past, and it's plenty powerful to have no problem with decent-sized batches of pizza dough. Like the mixer itself, the bowl, paddles and whisk are catering quality and all the bits fit in the bowl for storage.If you are putting it away after each use it is really heavy though and while ours does sit on the worktop, our old bright red kitchenaid that died suddenly looked nicer. For the cook in the house though, the Varimixer is a better mixer, feels much more powerful (never slows down) and is easier to use with its chunky controls and solid base. It is still stupid expensive but if you want catering quality mixer that doesn’t sound like a cement mixer and feels like it will last long enough to hand down to your grandkids, you cant go wrong with a Varimixer.
