FIGURING THE CORRECT SIZE IS TOUGH
These were 1/2" hose ends. I measured the cut off hose opening before ordering them and it was a tiny bit (1/32") larger than 1/2" but not nearly large enough to be 5/8". When they arrived I measured them and was a little taken aback to find that they were a little less than 1/2" so I knew in advance I was going to have a leak problem. And I did - a significant one - water spraying out the sides at both ends. I had tightened the clamps centered on the stem. I had an idea. I loosened and slid the clamps as far as they could go on the stem - so they were right at the end of the hose next to the menders. I reasoned that they might more easily seal the cut end of the hose to the stem than the body of the hose to the stem. Turns out that worked. I had to really tighten them down - to the point where I wondered if the clamps would hold. But the parts are strong and everything worked - not a drop of water leaked out even under pressure with a hose valve turned off on the end and the water at the bib turned on full. So I gave it a "4" for scaring me and making me think.

Fits my soaker hoses
Yes it is hard to prevent leaking at the attachment, but I always use a double clamp on all my fabricated and repaired hoses

Works as described with 1 hiccup
-It's a 1/2" hose mender kit. What more can you expect?-1 of the clamps binded and wouldn't go smaller than 5/8" (see picture). Other than that, everything else worked as it should.-Works perfectly fine on a normal, 1/2" garden hose. That said...-I bought these to fix one of those new-style "Zero G" hoses. We had 3 hoses of varying lenghts, and on all 3 of them, the manufacturer fitting leaked after about a month. But the way the "Zero G" hoses are designed, it is difficult to utilize this type of repair. I have tried 4 different "methods" but none would give me a leak free result.-To reiterate: The product works well on a normal, 1/2" garden hose.

might not work on cheap hose...
I had a cheap hose. this product did not fit it well. The hose was probably stretched. Just did not stay in place. I blamed the hose.. but I was disappointed

A Bit Expensive, but Does the Job Well
Since most of the hose repair connectors in the store are plastic, I was pleased to find these brass models. I have repaired a few hoses with them already and they work very well. They also work great for making short-run hoses, where you don't need 25' or 50' of hose. They're a bit pricey considering what they are, but I do appreciate the quality materials, and especially the stainless steel clamps.Good product, highly recommended!
