Review UPDATE "Works great"... NOT ANY MORE!!! Cheap do not buy.
My initial review was glowing for this product. However, at some point in the 2nd month of use, it stopped zapping the bugs. I did not realize when this happened because the lights continue to work. There just didn't seem to be any new dead bugs in the catch tray even though I had fruit flies back in the kitchen. After testing it first with an insulated screwdriver it failed to "POP", then tried with my bare hand and NOTHING. So, I figure I paid somewhere around $0.75 per day to kill flies in my kitchen. Great idea, poorly executed. Here is my original reviewThis works like a charm. Before I got this I was plagued by fruit flies because I always have fresh fruit in the house and I could not get them under control. And now with the warm weather, I have the door opened for the dogs often and the flies just seem to be waiting for me to open it so they can zoom in. Well, shortly after they enter they are drawn to the lights and I hear a soft "POP" as they come to an abrupt end. No more gnats, fruit flies, mosquitos or house flies. This is one of my favorite Amazon purchases EVER.

Great for indoor use
My kitchen is invaded with bugs and flies every summer and I bought this in preparation for that. It’s not summer yet where I am but we have been visited by a few bugs here and there. Thankfully this works perfectly and just zaps those bugs away! I like that it’s specifically made for indoor use and has safety features so I’m not worried my children will accidentally hurt themselves with it. It kills bugs but doesn’t hurt humans. Perfect!

Effective product
Received this light in good condition and as expected. I live in my 6300 sq. ft. shop and flies are a nuisance here, especially as the weather gets warmer. For the past two years I've tried about every variety of trap and most of the home remedies with disappointing results. I have a couple of dogs n the shop as well, so the dander and dog food crumbs don't help. I received this light ready to plug in and go to work. I plugged it in and within minutes it had claimed it's first victim. After I figured out where to place it the results were great. I'm looking at about 30-50 dead flies per day, and I haven't noticed any flies in the shop other than where the light is. What wasn't mentioned in the description is that there's a holder for bait/attractant installed on it, which would provide even better results, and a chain is included to hang the unit from. Despite all the dead flies, I've only heard it pop once. I do wish the light would make more noise when it zaps the bugs, but aside from that there are no complaints on this product. I've only had it a few days, but so far it's been great!!

Attracts plenty of bugs. Doesn't actually kill them. Also, stopped working after a few weeks.
Update:Light no longer turns on. Not gonna poke my finger in there to test the electric part, but my guess is that pooped out too. I can accept having less luck actually attracting the bugs, but now the thing isn't even useful as an expensive desk lamp anymore.----For the two or so weeks I've had this, I've seen two bugs actually get zapped. Fruit flies just flit around it, they never seem to touch the zapping part. So, one bug a week for me, which I don't think is a very good rate of success. The first bug was a fly and the second was a moth. Neither of them died. The fly was zapped, dropped to the plate below, and wasn't moving for about a minute, when it just got up perfectly fine and flew around again. Next time the thing flew into the zapper, I took it out and squashed it myself. The moth was attracted to the zapper and got stuck between the light and the actually charged metal. It was there for long enough I could smell smoke from the thing burning from a few feet away. Eventually it fell to the plate. I figured that once the thing's flesh has melted, it probably isn't getting back up, right? Nope, the next day the moth was flying around, perfectly fine.If you want to torture insects I guess this is your thing, but if you actually want to handle your bug problem, do not get this thing.

I'd buy it again.
I'm giving this product four stars because it works and it was comparatively inexpensive. I'm docking a star because bugs get stuck on the metal grate. This wire grate is supposed to be "self-cleaning", but it isn't. I have to put the zapper on the ground and go after it with a broom. The bugs you see on my floor are what I had to clean out of the zapper. They are the ones that didn't fall to the little plastic tray.

It does what the description says...
but with caveat. I've got it specifically to get rid of the stink bugs in the house. This unit does attract them and kill them, but they do STINK as they die. So if stink bugs is your problem make sure the unit placed somewhere, where the smell is not a problem.Next, unit comes with the chains to hang it on the wall as suggested in one of the images. However the power cord is coming out of the back of the unit, not the side, so it cannot be placed flush against the wall. Flipping the unit does not help, as the other side has on/off switch. So if you want to hang this against the wall, look elsewhere. No mess clean up is also questionable claim. Other reviewers already mentioned that bugs get stuck in the zapper, so you would need to clean it periodically. If you have small children make sure you can place this unit where they cannot possibly reach it. The metal guard has plenty of spacing for the small fingers to get through and beyond that is high voltage zapper.

Turns a ‘fly’ into a ‘walk’
I was skepticle to say the least and having tried a few brands I was almost ready to send this nine back but, in day two miraculously ‘pop’ ‘pop’,’pop’ it started. Why three stars though....if you need a fly zapper then buy this. It seldom catches other smaller insects and I think the current is not as strong because I have seen flys ‘zapped’ and still walking arohnd my counter...they do definitely die though, their wings get fried and they can no longer fly causing inevitable death. If the current were stronger it would kill more but for $30 buck come on....what do you expect.
