easy replacement
Perfect fit for the old one that we abused, not the manufactures fault. 10 minute installation and off we went.

Excellent Quality Derailleur
I ordered the "Altus RD-M310 Rear Derailleur 8 Speed Bike Rear Derailleur Direct Mount for Mountain Bike" for a spare derailleur for my son's Schwinn mountain bike. For some reason he has gone through several derailleurs over the years. I examined this one and it appears to be top-notch quality and should be an easy direct replacement when I need it. Overall - excellent quality derailleur!

good basic deraileur
They've made a great product and I am happy with it. I like how it functions and I haven't found anything to complain about.

wow, smooth shifting, precise changes, less noise
my understanding is that this is like a mid level derailleur from Shimano.....starting to be "I am getting serious about my mountain bike " territory and what a difference. I have been upgrading my 5 year old mountain bike and finally am at the gear upgrade. It came with the cheapest, sloppiest derailleur one could get ...on an otherwise up scale soft tail, duel suspension trail bike. So I upgraded to Altus with shifters and a new casete to match and after dialing in the high and low stops and fine tuning the shifting, I am left with a smooth shifting, precise and quiet shifting bike that no longer skips or makes noise of hangs on shifts. This is about as exact as I have ever seen a bike shift and that is uphill or down. The settings are easier to get to and totally make sense. I can see the endpoint of the stops..which always helps in setting them and the larger bottom gear wheel seems to help in the precision of the chain directing between gears. Don't think I will ever go back to the lesser model for what amounted to a bargain in value and about 4 hours work.
