My 12+ year-old TV by itself can't display the video of over-the-air channels transmitted using MPEG-4 or h.264 compression.However, thanks to this little device, which offers that very capability, I'm now able to use my obsolescent flat screen to watch some of my favorite local sportball teams lose in high def...and for free.While setup was generally straightforward, it did take a few attempts to successfully pair the device's remote with my TV remote. That said, this compact external tuner affords an elegant and eminently affordable solution to my problem - *way* cheaper than purchasing a new TV.I also tested the device's recording functionality (recorded programs can be saved to a FAT32 flash drive having up to 32GB of storage capacity). While the process is a bit clunky and isn't really described or explained w/in the user manual, it *does* work and obviates the need to purchase a separate recorder. One downside: while recording is in progress, the only channel that can be viewed is the channel that's being recorded; in other words, recording isn't an asynchronous background process.One more thing - ***please handle the remote with the utmost care***, as it's quite fragile and will break if dropped onto a hard surface. Further, because of its design, the device is effectively bricked without the remote. As it seems that replacement remotes aren't sold separately, I ended up buying a second tuner for the included remote. No great expense, but...Anyhow, all that aside, still quite pleased - great bang for the buck with this one...

I purchased this so that we could watch local TV channels via antenna on a 65 inch conference room monitor that I received for free when my employer downsized and moved to a smaller facility. Set-up was simple and pretty much initiated itself upon connecting it to the monitor and turning on the power. Works perfectly with our external HD antenna and it comes with a remote that allows you to control the volume and choose channels. Great for anyone who has an extra/old monitors that they want to convert to a TV for a spare room, office, kitchen, or patio. The price was also very affordable.

One star off for lousy HDMI cable. Tested Coax in to HDMI out. Initial results: Horrible picture and no sound.Swapped out the provided HDMI cable for a quality cable, and presto! Wonderful picture and audio. However, for basic functions (connections, auto channel search, EPG (channel guide)) they were quite clear and presented no problems getting hooked up and running.

Internal tuner stopped working on Insignia TV and I managed to salvage the TV with this external tuner. Using an indoor antenna,, I'm getting the same channels my other TV:s get that are connected to an attic mounted antenna and the picture quality is flawless. Of course I'm fortunate to be in an area that's gets exceptional reception to begin with so can't say you'll get the same results but if you don't, the tuner isn't your problem.

I purchased this to use on an old Sony Wega (Vega) Trinitron TV for local channels. My TV lacks an HDMI input, so I used the included composite cable. I've never seen cable wires so thin in my life, which may explain the extreme saturation of red color in the picture. To be certain, I hooked this up to a plasma TV and saw the same result. Extremely poor chrominance! If I lowered the color signal using the on screen menu, it looked fair, but I would have to re adjust the picture for my Roku device. The analog picture on my Roku was perfect. Remote control is cheap and difficult to program using my TV's remote! I do NOT recommend!

Set this up for a friend who lives out on the fringes of a large city. I set this up on a chest of drawers near a window inside an apartment. I didn't expect to receive many channels, but it pulled in just over 3 dozen channels. Most were clear and sharp. it was easy to set up and worked very very well.

It's a decent product but the remote and the sensor that allows you to change the channel doesn't always work together. You have to be real close to get it to work, or you have to hit the remote to get it to work for some reason.Picked up plenty of channels. Easy to set up only issue is the remote and the Sensor

Worked better than the box I had that was falling apart and the remote was broken. Also takes up much less room and sort of disappears with the cords. The remote extension works great for me. Perfect for the few times I watch TV. Same user interface as the previous different brand unit that was ~10yo so I didn’t have to learn anything new. The TiVo like capability seems nice but not something I am likely to use.
