Can you remove some of the stuffing?

Yes, if you have basic sewing skills. Having severe cervical spine issues, I personally found the pillow to be too firm. I ended up removing the protective zippered layer and using a stitch ripper to open a small hole along the seam. I was able to remove some of the filling and easily sew the hole closed. This fixed the issue of the firmness and I use it every night now. Hope this helps.

Does this pillow feel lumpy when you lay your head on it?

This pillow combines a gel memory foam outer layer with a shredded memory foam core and will not feel lumpy when you lay on it. Can the actual pillow be washed or only the cotton cover? Smell is making me sick - nausea & headaches. Thanks.

Do not even try to wash the pillow in an agitator (upright) washing machine. Had a hard time getting it into washer. Then pillow swells up and gets off center in machine which makes washer unbalanced. Maybe can wash in front loader without any issues. I have a top loader and could not get pillow out of the machine because loaded with water. My experience caused me to open up the pillow and take it apart. It wound in the trash.

Is it just one pillow?

Yes, you get one pillow. In my case I purchased a standard pillow. It is still my favorite pillow!
