Nice, but small
I'd really like to give this 41/2 stars, because it's such a small guide to such a big area. The descriptions are clear and there are good photos. Anything that helps more people spend time in this endangered national monument deserves a commendation, and I intend to use this book (it's not heavy to carry!) the next time I go to the area. Hint, Bluff, to the south is a much more friendly town to approach Bears Ears, than Blanding, to the east. The last time we drove through Blanding they were preparing for a visit by then Interior Secretary Zinke, and the place was plastered with "Rescind Bears Ears" banners.

A good guidebook with 25 great hikes for the Bears Ears National Monument/Dark Canyon areas
A good guidebook with 25 great hikes for the Bears Ears National Monument/Grand Gulch/Cedar Mesa/Dark Canyon areas. Lots of spectacular hikes into canyons of Cedar Mesa area/Bears Ears and very good photos. Also highlights some very interesting ancient ruins and reviews ethics for site visits. Easy compact book to carry with you on hikes.

Great book for this area
I used this book to explore this area of Utah. The author did a great job in describing the area and hikes. The information was spot on! It was very useful.

Great!
I've visited this area many times but never had a good guidebook. This one is excellent. I was very sorry that the current administration shrank the monument, but don't forget that all the trails and features are still there.

Small in size but maybe not in stature
good selection of hikes, wish there were more for dark canyon and beef basin but it is pretty comprehensive for the more realistically drivable trailheads in the area.also, it is a small size and slim volume, so check the dimensions and page count before buying if you're expecting a falcon or moon style guide

Illuminating an obscure new national treasure
Great, detailed and with plenty of pictures, the guide sheds light on a little known national park.

Spent a week in the area and found this guide not all that useful.
After spending a week out in the Cedar Mesa are of Utah and visiting countless Ancestral Dwellings I really didn't find this guide all the great. I tried using it a few times but unless you really know where all the dwellings are in relation to each the book is kind of pointless. An overview map would be great. With no other resource to the area it might be helpful. With so many better ones out there look elsewhere.

Excellent guide for the avid or armchair hiker
A thorough and entertaining guidebook to this mysterious and beautiful wilderness. Great descriptions of the terrain with an added bonus of the history of the area. Really like the “snapshot” of each trail before the longer descriptions. I may not get on many of these trails myself but the author’s words and pictures certainly help paint the picture of them.
