Large and colourful biodegradable packaging.
These were supplied loose in a large cubic cardboard box, and at five cubic feet, there are enough for many parcels (or one giant one). They are similar in appearance to expanded plastic peanuts, but being made from corn starch, have very different properties over the long term. I can't find a reference to the amount of time required for them to break down naturally, but I assume it is a reasonable period. More likely, they will be used and eventually dissolved in water deliberately, or through exposure to damp. It would be wise to make sure any packages are waterproof when using them, to avoid premature loss. Otherwise, they can be used just as plastic peanuts are. These are fairly large, and ideal for bigger items that are not excessively heavy, but could be used just as well for small packages. The recipient should be delighted with their cheerful multicoloured appearance. The price for this quantity is currently £19.49 including delivery. It's possible to buy from one cubic feet to forty-five cubic feet, and the unit cost ranges from about £31 to £8 per cubic metre accordingly. This pack is in the middle, at £12.79 per cubic metre..

Good quality packaging peanuts
Used to protect items in a suitcase, these peanuts are sold in a variety of volumes. They are corn, not plastic, so are better for the environment when their work is done. They are robust enough, too.

Huge box of eco friendly packaging. Don’t let it be left outside on a rainy day!
A massive box of useful protective packaging which can be just melted away harmlessly in water when finished with. Was rather larger than I realised so I think I’m going to have to split this up into smaller boxes or bags for storage until needed. Be warned, there is no inner packaging, just the chips in a cardboard box. It was raining on the day my parcel had been left outside and the box was getting damp. If I had been out any longer or rain any heavier it would have started to dissolve!
