The Craft of Research, Fourth Edition (Chicago Guides to Writing, Editing, and Publishing)

A much-needed book for anyone interested in conducting good research. I will suggest people new to research should read this first before diving into the research. This book explains every aspect of research, right from conceiving the idea to scouting the literature to identify the research gap, down to note-taking, creating an argument, and then writing about the research. As a Ph.D. student, I am glad I read this book because I can now use the knowledge gained from this book to improve my research and thesis. My suggestion is for you to buy it, read it, and apply it.

I have bought/borrowed a number of 'how to' books in my time on writing for academic purposes, but this one is the one that has really informed and inspired me. I keep it handy all the time for my academic writing/researching. It covers everything in clear and understandable instructions. But it also inspired me to keep writing and testing myself. A great book.

I bought this to learn the best way to research for me, when I need to research anything.

I have this book as required reading on a research course I teach. Highly readable content (though I think the 3rd edition has better formatting) that is easily put into practice. A great learning tool for those in the early stages of research practice, and as a reference tool for the more seasoned researcher to help us better communicate why we do what we do.

The Craft of Research will guide the new research student through the wilderness that faces them as they begin their journey into research. Although the first edition of the book was written long before the digital age the concepts discussed are still relevant today.

I have been asking myself how to conduct research properly. Finally, I found it!!!!! The book started elaborating from the definition of research and how to connect with readers with useful and practical quick tips that are easy to apply. For examples, create a Writing Group. This agreed with creating a peer support group in "How to get a PhD" and I formed one in my group. The book structures from finding a topic, asking questions, forming an argument, constructing warrant and acknowledging different aspect as well as how to respond. It's a great handbook for any researcher!
