Love this book
I didn’t think this was going to be a very must have book. But, I must say it’s been a very beneficial book to have on hand. I have enjoyed reading all the information. I do wish they would name the water bath recipes instead of just saying cover jars with water. It’s slightly confusing to beginning canners to make that out. But we persist thru and make it work.

Reliable, Current Canning Recommendations to Ensure Safe Food Preservation
I'm an experienced canner - but having recently purchased Presto's 12 Qt. Stainless Steel Electric Canner - I decided it would be prudent to review the most current tested/proven pressure-canning guidelines so bought this USDA Guide which I studied thoroughly.It was well worth the price! Everything mentioned in it is tested and reliable - my canning Bible. Good thing I bought it, studied it, marked it up, etc. Some guidelines have changed since I started canning umpteen years ago.SOME UPDATED INFO:---Using recent cost comparisons in today's economy, USDA explains a person/family can save up to nearly 50% on a food budget by doing home canning.--The nutritional contents of home canned foods are typically much higher than commercially canned foods and without all the additives.--I've been tightening the rings on my canning jars too tightly the past few years. Strange to say, but it actually interferes nowadays with canned jars sealing.--Lots of other useful tips.BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY.....I also had purchased on Amazon a highly rated pressure-canning cookbook written by a private, popular author without nutritionist credentials. After studying the USDA Guide, it became readily apparent to NOT follow some of the pressure-canning recipes in the other cookbook as they are at risk for incomplete heat penetration at 240 F of the food within the jars throughout the entire pressure-canning cycle. Those risky recipes can lead to food spoilage and/or botulism.Thanks USDA!(My taxpayer dollars at work!)

Don't fall for the Color Print
This is a great book about canning and food safety. I wouldn't call it a fun book to read, but it is useful and I plan on using it for years to come.The "Color Print" means nothing. A few pages have a chart with blue or red. It would be nicer to have actual picture, but sadly those are not included in this book.I recommend if you are into canning and want to follow the USDA food guidelines.While I like the book and find it useful, it is not what I would call a fun book to own. It is all facts and recipes. No cute stories or pictures to entice the person reading.This would make an excellent gift for anyone that enjoys canning

USDA Guide To HomeCanning 2024. This Guide will give you Confidence in your home canning experience! I’ve never bought any yearly issues before this, so why did I wait so long? A USDA Guide is a wonderful addition to your canning book library if you don’t already own one!

An essential reference
All of this information is available for free on the USDA website, but I wanted a printed copy available for when my wifi acts up. I had contacted the USDA to make sure that the 2015 was the most recent version, and they assured me that it was (I am writing this review in July 2024). It is exactly what i expected, and I am pleased with my purchase.
