Q: Pictures suggest it had a smooth spine I think amazon needs to check themselves cuz I know this knife has a sharp spine?

The spine’s back is smooth; however, the edges of the spine are sharp. It’s perfect for throwing sparks with a Fero Rod.

Q: Is this 1095 carbon steel?

Almost. Carbon content is similar, a but higher in manganese, the addition of silicon, plus proprietary tempering. Personally, I prefer it to 1095 blades this size. Not sure it would be feasible in a full sized Kabar.

Q: What is the best oil to prevent rust?

While technically correct that you can use any oil, food grade oils (vegetable, olive, etc) are best as they won’t foul the blade for food prep usage. No one wants 10-40 weight marinade.
