Engaging!
Everything about this story Bible is wonderful. Mind you, it's the Bible put in story form, not a Bible. That being said, my son is enjoying reading it for himself and then he and I reading the actual account found in the Bible. I'm going to be honest, I really am shocked that this story book has engaged his curiosity and desire to want to know more and it's made reading the Bible itself now understandable. What's not covered in the story Bible and is in the Bible we've had some cool talks about. It's let me see how God works in his heart and his mind and I love hearing from him the thoughts he's having. I had no idea how impactful this story Bible would be. As far as the book itself: beautiful illustrations through out, the pages aren't thin, like it was expected for it to be in the hands of a younger generation and sturdy. Love it! Would highly recommend it.

Amazingly Crafted Bible Story Book
First off, I'm a Christian grandfather living in the U.S. and found this book totally amazingly well done. In short, it is a well written story book for children or anyone else wanting a high level, entertaining overview of the Bible in the author's own 21st century words and views. The book is beautiful, the writing well done, and the illustrations are expressive, bright, stand alone and amplify the story being told. We are currently enjoying with our grandchildren and considering gifting to our siblings and friends to enjoy with their young family members as well. Here is a brief overview of what I really liked, or disliked, about the "The Biggest Story Bible Storybook" by Kevin DeYoung and illustrated by Don Clark. The Book Itself. The book itself is beautiful bound, faux leather dyed green, gold embossed spine, stamped prints from book's artwork on front cover. It is absolutely beautiful and very well done. The pages are thick, quality paper similar to resume paper, varied bright colors to include the edges making a kaleidoscope of colors on books closed edges. Also included is a book mark that feels like a silk ribbon similar to what you find included in many bibles to mark your page. The book comes boxed suitable for giving as a fine gift to include a Presentation Page in the front to record gifted and giver. The Writing Style and Organization. This book seems to be written primarily to a mainly Christian audience who will share with young children as age appropriate. After some reading, I'd suggest that this book would also appeal to anyone of any religion or ilk who appreciates the teachings, messages, and universal truths from the Bible. The book is organized to parallel the Bible's order from Genesis to Revelation selecting key stories and events about the relevant and important characters along the way. Kevin DeYoung has a "super power" of taking extremely complicated ideas and philosophies and skillfully using the "explain it to me like I was a third grader" approach so that almost anyone can better grasp the message. There are also short prayers that can be used relating to the story just read. This is definitely a really nice touch for bed time stories. That said, I'd suggest this book may be somewhat beyond most children under eight's comprehension and a challenge to hold their attention. I also found it somewhat annoying that he refers to Jesus as "Snake Crusher" throughout various parts of the book. I get that he is tying New Testament back to Old Testament but I find the reference too "super hero" or WWE and is distracting at the very least. Granted a small complaint, but I personally think Jesus is polyonymous enough from the Bible itself without yet another name. The Illustrations. The illustrations in a word are beautiful. Each illustration provides a key story image or representation which is thought provoking. The style reminds me somewhat of the artwork from the Beatles' movie "Yellow Submarine" from the 1960s, only without the psychedelia leanings. Our granddaughters, ages 7 and 10, like to flip through the book just looking at the illustrations, commenting as they go.In conclusion, I was blown away by the overall quality and relevance of this talented author and illustrator. This is definitely unlike any children's Bible story book I've ever experienced and it has quickly moved to our "go to" book when we read together with our grandchildren. Not only grandchildren, our children are borrowing it when here to browse through and are all also totally impressed. If not obvious yet, I totally recommend this book to parents, grandparents, or anyone looking for a comprehensible, sensical overview of the Bible's teachings--it's great!

Amazing Illustrations and Good Content
This is a delightfully illustrated storybook Bible. The Bible paraphrases stories and tries to convey the truths of the Bible for young readers and listeners. The illustrations are as captivating as any Bible I've seen and are sure to grasp children's attention. The stories include the early Bible stories especially and have sections on the Pentateuch, the history, the prophets, the poetry, the gospels, Acts & a few of the Epistle chapters and then a section from Revelation. The sections all hit the highlights with only four chapters from the Epistles (Romans 8, 1 Cor 13, James 3 and Philemon).Anytime a Bible storybook or paraphrase has one author, in this case Kevin DeYoung, it is going to have that author's theology, interpretations and style throughout. When the author writes mainly for adults and is now trying to write for young readers, you will also see some awkwardness in the writing style. DeYoung is a Presbyterian pastor and seminary professor of systematic and Reformed theology, so writing to children is not his specialty. Some things are very adult-oriented and then some phrases are very childish (i.e. "But don't think that makes God a meanie.") I think the book could have been better written had a children's writer been involved with DeYoung. This deficiency will come across quickly for readers. There are several really good storybook Bibles for children. This can be added to that collection to acquaint readers with the story of salvation, with Jesus and with reading Scripture. The book itself is the size and shape of a real Bible, so that is a plus.Just an FYI--There is an illustration of John the Baptist's head being held up--not sure if this is appropriate for the target audience.
