Perfect amount of grippiness!
I've been using the clear tape for two seasons now and I find it to be just right. I have never worn gloves so I cannot compare to that experience. So, even though others are saying it lacks grip, that is the opposite of my experience.

Good luck installing
Put on kayak paddle, wasted half of it because it's impossible to wrap it around without sticking it to itself.
