Smooth and durable.
This is the first time I’ve tried this type of wheel. I was apprehensive about it for more than one reason. Probably one of my biggest concerns was the initial cost. These wheels are expensive. And so many things crossed my mind relating to the expense. How well was the quality monitored, would the Diamond material be consistent and how would it wear under high speed and possibly high pressure conditions. How about the trueness of the wheel itself? Would the machining be true? Would the center be the correct size? I use Diamond stones to sharpen knives and scissors and I know mine, some of which are more than 20 years old, and they actually have not only been durable but have gotten better at producing a scary sharp kind of edge. I used to have a helper here lots of the time and I wasn’t sure he would not abuse the wheel. But it’s only me now so I knew that I would not abuse the wheel and it should last who knows how long. So decided to go ahead and try it. I am very happy with that decision. So happy I intend to purchase another in a different grade. My grinder has never been so smooth. I ran it with just this wheel to see how it did and it had absolutely zero vibration. Once it spooled up I could hardly tell if it was actually running. I sharpened a couple drill bits and lathe tools and man the edge it put on them was surprising. And it was not aggressive and not throwing particles of stone either. When I turned it off I encountered another shock. This wheel had some serious momentum going on. And maybe 2 minutes later it still hadn’t stopped. I’m thinking the extra weight, while it had no effect on the time from dead stopped to max RPM, would act as a flywheel and make it impossible to bog this tool down. So I’m gonna get one for the other side as well. If these hold up as well as my sharpening plates they are only gonna get better. With the performance level of them and the vibration becoming non existent, these are very much worth the cost. I do believe in the long run they will be a better value. I highly recommend these.
