Just apply a bit of pressure to the spring section to "Fine Tune the Cut", and .......
After a few initial teething problems actually getting the bolts through the blade to secure the sprung tines, and then, after scrapping a (very small) bald patch in the lawn, applying a bit of pressure to the spring section of the tines to 'fine tune' and adjust the 'cut', this Scarifier did a really excellent job, and for a very modest outlay. The amount of moss, clover and general detritus scoured out of the lawn in the spring, was truly amazing, and now, in October, the lawn is looking extremely healthy.PAY LESS THAN £18.00 for one of these - take all of 10 minutes to attach it to your petrol mower - and then find that it works just as well as a dedicated lawn scarifier/raking machine costing from £85 up to £200 +?It's a No-Brainer!

Mower Attachment
Bought this product last year.Have now used it twice on a non aggressive setting. It has improved the lawn significantly. Will be getting it in use again over the next few weeks to start the year off. It's handy to have for use whenever needed and saves the cost of hiring or buying a separate machine.

Excellent product but support information needs to be improved.
Overall I am very pleased with the lawn scarifier. It is solidly made, easy to fit and does a great job in clearing out moss. But as other reviewers have commented...be prepared to have to carry away a lot of moss! Also, please be aware that the accompanying illustration on the Amazon web page is misleading; it incorrectly shows a grass cutting blade and not the scarifier tool. Surprisingly, the manufacture's blister pack that the tool is supplied in is designed for a grass cutting blade so it also has the wrong illustration and description on the back (The description refers to "Raised Air Lift" and "Sharpened Edge" whereas the unit itself is just a flat piece of steel with cut outs for the attachment of the scarifier springs and so does not have a raised air lift shape and does not have a sharpened blade edge). I initially wondered if I had been supplied with a faulty product! Tried to inform supplier about this via phone and web site email but both approaches failed to make contact.

It does the job, but . . .
I found the spring tines quite hard to fit, but seemed secure once fitted. It was easy enough to fit to the mower, but it caused a lot of vibration because it was out of balance, and there seems to be no way of balancing it accurately, except by trial and error. I would imagine that most users would only want to use it a couple of times per year, and it's hard to justify the time needed to set it up, and then re-fit the normal cutting blade afterwards. It DID shift a lot of thatch, though, so I was happy enough with the purchase, but I will only use it if I have neglected the lawn for a year or two. I think a lawn rake is a better option, with maybe using a scarifier just once in the season. I wouldn't be happy leaving the grass cuttings on the lawn - I believe it encourages moss growth, with the consequent weed growth and stifling of the grass - that's how it happens on my lawn, anyway.VERY quickly shipped, though - I had it within 36 hours - and that's to the Irish Republic. God Bless Royal Mail and An Post!

Bought this 2 yrs ago but only got round to using it now. Assembly was easy, and 20 min later was going round my law taking out nice layer of moss. Problem is after 2 laps of the lawn I wondered why it was no longer taking out as much moss. Looked under mower and the spring loaded "steel" spikes had worn away to nothing. I was scraping the top of the soil a little to get the moss out well but if these things were actually made of steel as they say then this wouldn't happen. Waste of time, took me another 10 min to replace my original blade and throw this thing in the bin .. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Well who would have thought it
After the wettest winter for some considerable time my lawn was looking more like moss side! Before going and spending a small fortune on an industrial sized scarifier I thought I might give this a go. The fitting instructions are clear and there are many reduction washers enabling this device to fit my Champion 19" mower with little difficulty. The amount of moss it pulls up is remarkable and as other users have stated it does cut the grass as well if it is long enough. Don't dwell in any spot for more than a second though else you will have a circular mud patch. The tines are strong and would expect this product to last for a considerable amount of time. I will be using this a couple of time before going into normal mowing mode for the rest of the year. If you can purchase spare tines as well this is a must have for any large garden with lots of moss!

Worked well til it broke my mower!!
I had a spare rotary mower but no scarifier, so I thought this was worth a go. Fitting was fairly easy, though fastening the tines to the blade needed a vice as everything in under tension. First impressions were good, though it wasn't removing as much thatch as an old electric one I'd had. I lowered the cut height a notch and it turned into a beast! All the thatch and moss was gone but the engine was labouring a bit. I persevered, lifting the nose of the mower to give the engine some relief. I then hit a thick pach of moss - engine stopped dead. When I tried to restart it it sounded like a bag of scanners. Turns out the stopping of the blade had bent the crankshaft of the mower (an oldish cheap flymo with a Briggs engine)! So, the attachment and the mower are off to the skip tomorrow. Will buy a proper petrol scarifier :)
