So far, so good. The AC plug is removable, to make it easier to get the power cord through the safe’s access hole. The metal tube heats up to a temperature that feels about like that of a hot plate pulled immediately out of a dishwasher’s drying cycle. Due to it being hot to the touch, I like that it was supplied with two plastic , snap on style brackets. These brackets can be used for mounting the metal tube to the safe’s wall, or they can be used as “feet” that keep the hot tube off your safe’s floor. Per the directions, this “dehumidifier” is designed to be used horizontally, ideally at the lowest part of your safe. This is NOT a dehumidifier, in the technical sense of the word. This device warms the interior of your safe, slightly, which prevents condensation from forming on the safes interior metal walls and metal gun parts. Think of it like this, a cold can of beer will “sweat”, if it’s colder than the surrounding air. A hot beverage, warmer than the surrounding air temp will not. This product would likely work even better, when paired with desiccant, as a fail safe. The desiccant actually does dehumidify. Moisture won’t condense on the inside of your safe if there isn’t any. Just like moisture that’s present in the air is less likely to condense on surfaces that are warmer than the surrounding air . Overall, it looks to be a great value for the money, as long as it doesn’t break

I have it in a safe in a cold garage during winters and it works very well keeping temperature warmer then outside temperature by about average of 9 degrees. No rust on guns at all. I also put portable condensate containers in safe made by Remington, but the golden rod keeps everything warm which is the key to control. Easy to install, doesn't get in the way, low on power, nice looking, works like a charm, and would buy another if needed. When it comes to my guns I get what it takes to keep them from rusting and cost is not a factor. This is the trick. By the way I have a 80 gun safe and it keeps it warm, so I am sure it would keep a smaller safe warmer, but I don't know for sure. It more of a heater then a dehumidifier in my opinion but I will tell ya with a condensate Remington container and a golden rod you will be 100% protected, Buy it if you love your guns and don't want rust on the. I always put silicone spray on my guns and punch the bore with same and wipe them down, put them in safe and your over protected. By the way for you that don't know about silicone spray, it's sold at Wal Mart in the RV section or the auto department, You will use this silicone spray along with your Golden Rod and Remington condensate and you will have ZERO rust. Definitely works good had it for many years still working?

Lowers the humidity in my gun safe about 5% and raises the temperature about 4-5 degrees. I’m generally satisfied but was hoping for a bigger reduction in humidity. However it is a fairly large safe.

i was a little worried how well this would fit in my safe. I wanted it on the floor between the vertical section divider and the outer wall. This unit fit well. The cord was easy to thread thru my port, although part of the ease is because I have my safe resting on a small wood block to keep it off the cold floor. If your port is on the bottom and the safe isnt elevated, you might have a problem with this or any corded device. I don have the fancy humidity detectors and things, but it is warm to the touch and I am confident that it is aiding in humidity control. I believe in overkill, so I also have a can of the dehumidifier stuff but this rod makes me feel better as those cans have maintenance of drying them out in an oven. Which I dont do as often as I should. My safe is in the utility room with the dryer and washer (both prone to raising humidity) and I don't worry because of this device. All in all this gives peace of mind at a good price.
