is the cable compatable with an older model 2011 MacBook pro?

It should be compatible with older Macs - which means no USB C. In my case it came with either an USB- C to A adapter or C to A cable.

I've owned 2 passports for Mac and they both worked good for a year and then quit although they would still work on a PC. Not worth the hassle to me and will never buy another WD product. I want a backup I can count on. so went to USB flash drives. Your mileage may vary.
