Works well so far, supports both mono and stereo, built solid/heavy, pricey?
This device works well with great audio quality and low noise so far!A few notes in addition to what others have said:- The device supports both mono and stereo. If you only plug into the right input of a channel, the mono input is duplicated on both L and R channels.- The separate volume controls for the headphone and master are independent. Changing one does not affect the other.- The small device is built in a heavy, sturdy case. I was hoping to lighten it up a bit, but there are no weights to remove, just a sturdy steel case. Not a bit deal (and the weight is probably a benefit for most users).- There are two headphones out, but they are tied together passively with a single volume control. This is as advertised for the use of having either 1/4" or 3.5mm connection. Seems to work fine for dual headphones but your experience may vary.Seems a bit pricey for what it is, but works well with the size and features I was looking for.

quality
The first time I bought it it had a nasty distortion in the audio, I had to return it, I bought it for a second time and the difference was night and day, it performs really well, it is compact and has all the features I need,

High in quality, low in features
Make no mistake, this is a high-quality line mixer that will probably survive my stay on the planet with excellent sound quality and great durability. Beyond that there's not much to say because the device is very low on features that would give me something to say. It is important to note that the level controls are very crowded together and difficult to adjust without inadvertently turning the knob next to it. Another nit is the volume level at output. I switched to this mixer from a more sophisticated live audio mixer and the difference in maximum level was significant. I would expect that from a passive unit, but I shopped for an active mixer for that very reason - active mixers typically provide a higher output levels. This is more of a surprise than a drawback because I don't typically listen at maximum volumes. The only other issue is the 1960s design of it; one would think pride alone would motivate some style in the execution. Bottom line: happy I bought it and it is doing the job wonderfully. Consider it recommended.

Noisy, flaky
Felt nice and solid, and the balance controls had center detents. That's the good news. The bad news is there was a really loud hum on all disconnected inputs, and the power supply jack was intermittent (shut off depending on which way the cord was tugged).I suspect I could have made it work by making up plugs to short all the inputs I'm not using (to prevent them from picking up noise) and arranging it to avoid disturbing the power cable, but that's a bit too much to have to do.

Power supply noise in headphone amp
The first MX28 I received had a high-pitched hum/buzz/whine noise in the headphone amp which was audible at normal listening levels, and awful if the headphone amp was cranked. The noise got louder if I touched my finger to the metal chassis. It was present whether or not anything was connected to the MX28's inputs and outputs. I tried another outlet. No change. I wrote to Rolls via their web contact form and asked if this was normal, but did not receive a reply.I tried another pair of headphones, but the noise was still there. The master output was clean, and sounded fine through an external HeadRoom AirHead headphone amp. Oddly enough, the noise also went away if I drove the AirHead's input the MX28's headphone output.Still, using an external headphone amp defeated half of my purposes for getting the MX28, so I ordered a replacement to see if I just got a bad mixer or power supply. The replacement had a similar noise, but it was higher pitched, a little quieter, and had a slightly different character to it. I tried the power supply from the first mixer with the replacement MX28 and now the replacement mixer sounded like the first one did. I tried the replacement power supply with both mixers and they both sounded the same with the same power supply. My conclusion is that the headphone amp design is susceptible to noise from the power supply, and that the power supplies vary in their level and character of noise. I suspect this would sound great running off of batteries, but the supplied wall wart power isn't clean enough. I found that connecting sources to the inputs and outputs, while using the replacement power supply, lowered the noise a little more to where it's not too bad at normal headphone levels, although it's still prominent if I turn the headphone amp up above the center position.I'm giving it 2 stars, because the mixer section and master output work well and don't have the whining noise, but beware if you want to use the headphone amp.Update 2/21/14: I bought a different power supply (Triad WSU150-0800) and that fixed the noise in the headphone amp. I'm happy with the sound now, so I'm bumping my rating up to 3 stars.

Good little mixer, but expensive.
I bought this mixer to keep on my desk at work, so I can listen to music from a docked iPod, and the sound from my PC. The jacks on the rear are all 1/4" mono (TS), and it has both a 1/4" and 1/8" stereo (TRS) headphone jack on the front. I actually use the "main mix" output on the back to go into a set of headphones, so there are no wires at all coming from the front. This configuration works well for me.Unlike cheaper models, this is a true stereo mixer - the L & R channels are kept separate, rather than mixed into a single mono channel that's sent to the L & R jacks for output. I should also note that the model I received is black with white labels, rather than beige with black labels, as pictured.Although this is one of the more expensive units out there, the sound quality is excellent, and because it's powered, there's no lack of volume. Highly recommended.

Works well...if you gain stage it properly
If you ensure that your source is set at unity gain (and that you're not relying on the Rolls to make up the difference) then you shouldn't be experiencing any hum or buzz problems. Unity gain on a MacBook Pro or a iPhone is about three button presses down from the max volume level. For me, it worked as advertised. No issues.
