Absolutely lovely paint
I absolutely love this paint. I used 2 tins of this paint and used it to paint my outside steps, 2 small pieces of fencing and outhouse doors with this paint. It applied really well to the steps and the small pieces of fencing, they were bare timber to start with but the paint applied really well, I applied to coats to make sure that the paint stayed bright and they look fantastic, it is a really lovely purple colour. I also did 3 outhouse doors with it, they were previously a dark blue gloss so I sanded them back and primed them with an under coat. I ended up doing 4 coats as they were really streaky to start with but they look fab now. I can’t comment on the longevity of it yet as it has only been on a couple of weeks and so far we have had lovely sunny days (long may it last 🤞). The paint goes on really well, dries quickly, is value for money and looks great what more could you want from a tin of paint, now to decide on a colour for my main fence panels 🤔.

Looks great.
I brought this to paint our garden fence. I hoped it would cover the existing colour and tidy up the tired looking fence. I brought this paint in black. 1. The paint is thick and creamy. This makes it nice and easy to work with. 2. It has covered amazing well. Better than expected if I’m honest. 3. It looks amazing when dry. 4. It’s water based so makes it easy To clean the brushes after use. Only downside is you need a fair bit of it. A 1lt tin does not go that far. I did apply it thickly as I did not want to apply 2 coats. However, that being said, by the time you have applied 2 coats with another brand, the cost difference is probably minimal. Would I recommend this product, 100% yes. I highly recommend.

Great quality and colour!
Application was easy but the paint is extremely thick, unfortunately you do need 3 coats so you use a lot of paint which works out expensive, thankfully I only used for my gate and garage door and windows, wouldn't be any good for fencing! I need to do another coat on my gate as seen in photos which I've just enough paint left, all in all I'm quite happy but would rather use a stain! Drys quickly, thankfully as with all the rain we've had it's been difficult! Thank you very much 🩵🪬🧿🌀🙏

Love the colour, love the finish!
Purchased on a whim to restore an IKEA bistro set comprising of 2 chairs and a table, which I actually have 3 of, so all in, 6 chairs 3 tables. When I purchased the furniture it had some kind of weather coating on it that barely lasted a year, I then used an IKEA product that left a waxy residue and it turned black in the rain. Many many hours were spent removing the later, power washing then using a rough to fine grade sandpaper to remove most of the product. I then applied this Johnstone's paint in colour Dusty Fern. It is like thinned acrylic paint in consistency. Applies fairly easily but was quite streaky on first application then as it dries it evens out slightly. It gives an almost sun bleached look, which isn't horrible but I wanted a matt opaque, so continued applying up to 4 coats on areas to achieve this. Dries really quickly so the painting part was easy. I don't think it soaked into the wood, creating more of a skin like finish. I love the colour, just blends into the greenery outdoors which is what I wanted, rather that something garish this time. I've left my furniture out in all weather's now and the finish is still like new. However, one hot day I had one of the chairs leaning on the table and where paint touched paint it stuck and peeled of when I moved them. Not a big deal as I managed to paint everything using less than one tin, so I have plenty left for touch ups, but something to note when it comes to folding the furniture up and storing it. I think if it's painted on untreated wood it would have been absorbed more readily and this would be less of a potential problem. If nothing else I'll be glad to have prettied up my outdoor living space and gotten another few years worth out of the bistro sets at least. Noted recently that I was able to get this product for less than half of what I paid, however at the time I still found it reasonable compared to other similar products and to get a colour I actually liked. Would I buy it again? Yes! I purchased 6 more tubs in various colours and have used it on a small hutch, another chair and plan to paint 2 benches next. So, ...good value, reasonably easy to use, build up colour to achieve the finish you like, low VOC so I managed to use it indoors in a well ventilated space, clean brushes with water... One other note, the container is plastic and not metal, but that is actually helpful as the lid doesn't warp when opening, so it can be replaced securely, and it doesn't corrode in my outdoor store, preserving the paint inside. I'll definitely be trying more of the Johnstone's range in the future.

Gorgeous colour! I am obsessed!
This paint is amazing. The coverage is great, I found it much easier to apply than other brands I’ve used. This shade “gentle willow” is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a lovely sage green and I’m literally looking around the garden to see what else I can paint! I’ve used it on a cabin, on garden walls and balustrades so it works well on wood and stone. Anything and everything is getting a sage green makeover here. Previously we had a lot of grey woodwork and walls in the garden and I’m loving this shade, it feels more homely, warmer and it’s less boring than grey which we are so bored of here. I did 3 coats on the cabin as it had been painted before but one 2.5 litre pot was plenty. The stone walls only took two coats and it’s a very thick, block faultless coverage. One tub really does go a long way

Thick, hard work, required endless coats and the colour not as suggested and painfully luminous...
I accept that most reviews rate this paint highly, but really must provide my own and very different experience. Purchased the Island Lake colour as wanted a blue for the shed to interact with my Cuprinol Dusky Gem fence. On opening the tin of Johnstones I was pleased to see the thickness of the paint compared to the thin seeming Cuprinol.. Surely this would cover better and take less effort and fewer coats? Not so.. One coat looked awful. 2 coats looked better, but 3 coats were needed to give any resemblance of full depth of colour. I also found the paint very hard to apply. It required a great deal of working in and dripped everywhere. Finally (and I cannot target the whole range here) there was the end colour.. far more luminous than any records of the suggested colour, including the completely different colour on the actual paint can.. It hurt the eyes :(. After a £20 wasted purchase I gave up and settled on another shade if the Cuprinol Garden Shades collection (muted clay). I bought enough for 4 coats as I knew it was thinner and needed to cover up the bright luminous blue... The paint flowed and applied beautifully and amazingly covered the whole shed to full colour depth in just 2 coats and half the amount of the Johnstones I had applied. I try and live and learn, and so despite the other colours being maybe more acceptable I will definitely not be buying this brand again. I do think that it is a far better paint for smaller projects such as chairs and planters, etc. I found the Cuprinol better on every score, plus their representation of actual colour far more accurate. I've provided a picture of both the end result from the Johnstones in blue, and the end result in the beigey/brown Cuprinol, which was just so much easier to apply and required so little I cannot recommend it enough.
