ITIL For Dummies, 2011 Edition

I purchased this book initially and followed it up with 'Passing your ITIL foundation exam'. The ITIL for Dummies book is an extremely pleasant and highly detailed and informative read. I can't recommend it enough, a definite recommendation if you're new to ITIL or just want to fill in a few gaps without being bored to death.

I bought this book in the hope that it would give me sufficient knowledge to pass the ITIL Foundation exam. Before buying I read some of the reviews to see what others had found so I think it's only fair to share my own view, which is that it's perfectly possible to pass having "just" read this book. I work in an organisation that uses ITIL but I hadn't previously studied the theory at all. My approach was to read parts 1 and 2 and make notes before having a couple of passes reading over them before the exam. I also made use of the free practice paper on the ITIL website: this gave me confidence that I knew enough to pass, which I did a couple of days later with 87.5%. The book goes into the right level of detail and there is obviously an attempt to not bog the reader down in endless jargon while at the same time giving the key definitions. I didn't read the 'Putting it into practice' section of the book as I didn't feel I needed to to pass the exam so I can't comment on how useful or otherwise the book is for this purpose.

This is a good book for an overview. It doesn't go into enough detail to pass your intermediate exams, but it's good as an introduction and to set the scene in your head. It's very easy to read and isn't quite as dry and boring as some other ITIL books.

Bought this as I was new to IT and had undertaken ITIL exams. It helped me get a good overview of the framework very quickly. It's simply explained (as these books aim to do) and made it easier for me to transition into a new role. Recommended.

Didn't find this at all useful. All the info is there (hence half marks) but the layout and formatting is awful. It makes reading it hard work. Please just add some colour! I dont recommend, there are better guides out there than this.

I have the official ITIL books but this is an easier read. It uses a lot of the official diagrams for key points so you know its genuine information, but the explanations are more "user friendly". It doesn't have the sample exam questions that the official books do so you probably need both if you intend doing the foundation exam.

I was confused with all the ITIL jargon that the official ITIL manuals try to convey, this books simplifies the whole process. It provides an excellent introduction into ITIL. The author gives some tips along the way and a whole host of websites that you can browse to further your understanding of ITIL. Suddenly the official books don't look so daunting! Excellent price considering the official manuals will set you back in excess of £200. The author does recommend you buy the official manuals (get your company to pay for them!).

I have read this book from cover to cover and it's simple to read and understand..... great as a reference book....

J'ai préparé l'examen en autodidacte avec ce livre. 95% au passage. Très clair et compréhensible. Avec pas mal d'informations pratiques sur la mise en place de l'ITIL dans une entreprise.

A very helpful book to understand ITIL. I have took ITIL foundation course couple of weeks ago and decided that i want to read more about this subject before taking the exam and bought this book. My first language is not English, but i have found that this book is easy to read and understand.
