Excellent EMS companion for XSHEARS!
For reference, I use this with XSHEARS. This holster / holder / sleeve is the best all-around that I’ve tried so far. I started my search because my XSHEARS kept wearing holes in my thigh pockets. Especially when kneeling, they would very quickly poke through my pants. I’ve tried a few holsters (including XSHEARS own) and wouldn’t recommend many because of retention problems (shears falling out), quality issues, or poor value. These are different. This simple product has made such a difference. The leather is very thick and stiff which is great for two reasons. First, the shears won’t wear through the thick leather. It quickly “formed” around the areas of extra pressure like the tip of the shears and there is no movement or friction between the shears and the holster, so there is no wear. The second reason the stiff, thick leather is great, is because it has excellent retention on the XSHEARS. The shears would stay in even if I was a gymnast (I’m not!). This does mean that if you pocket carry like I do, you have to be cognizant of the way you remove the shears because if you just yank them out, the holster clip will actually release before the shears do. You can still remove them one handed, you just have to be mindful of how you do it. The shape (sort of an inverted hourglass) is perfect for keeping the curved or angled blades of trauma shears secured. It works great for belt carry if that’s your thing. I flip it around and clip it to the inside of my thigh or calf pocket (see my picture) and that’s where I prefer it in an EMS setting. The stitching and quality of the leather seem excellent so I really don’t have any concerns with this lasting well. The thing that really makes this a winner for me is that it’s fairly priced. You’re getting a high quality item at a really good price. Thumbs up from me.

ED-Tech approved!
I work in an emergency department and have kept my x-shears in a speed holster at the small of my back. It works but has a lot of drawbacks. I came home from a shift, intending to buy the in-pocket holster when this came up. I read that it was started by an ED Doc and read several reviews from others in the medical field and figured it was worth a shot.I got it a day early and was excited to try it out. While gearing up in the morning, I got the impression it wouldn't stay in my scrubs if I pulled just on my shears but decided to give it a try anyway. Today was pretty busy and I gave this a good run for its money. Several found-downs, unresponsives, intubated patients, a dc that turned into a rapid response/readmit and a code stemi. My shears stayed secured all day long and were incredibly comfortable to wear.I was right about the holster pulling out if I grabbed only the shears but I found that the clip is the perfect release. It's very ergonomic and natural(for me, at least) to grab the shears as you see in the pictures and press against the clip. They released flawlessly every time and securing them again was easy. I highly recommend this to anyone who feels they need a better system for carrying and using their shears. There's no concern with losing them in a busy situation and you'll have them out before anybody else during a code. A huge thanks to the company for a well-designed and well-made product. I'll be a customer for life.

Not an EMT but
I do carry Trauma shears in my Go Bag and so I would be considered a "casual user" of this holster.I had another brand of holster in my Go Bag that used a long strip through the eye of of the shears locking down to a piece of velcro to secure the shears in the holster. If you weren't going to wear the shears on your waist that setup would be acceptable. But if you're an EMT, that holster could be a pain in the neck to access if you needed your shears in a hurry.Enter this holster, the Hip Clip. It's a better built mouse trap. Nothing fancy but obviously someone put some thought into something that should be very basic and functional. Created by an MD this holster should work for most EMT's. It's made of leather but not cow hyde. It hugs your Trauma shears tightly and I expect it to relax and loosen with time and use. the clip is metal and removable if necessary .My only knock hence the 4 star review is that I own the X Shears (great product) and they fit snugly in the holster except that they don't go in all the way (maybe 98% of the way?) because they have a curve to them and the holster doesn't allow for that bend. Also you have to maneuver the shears to get the tops of the scissors to pass the top of the holster. I'm sure this problem (which is minor but needs to be pointed out) is exclusive to the X Shears and for most other standard Trauma shears this shouldn't be a problem. Also this issue might become moot with time and use, especially if you're an EMT who uses his (or her) shears a lotRecommended with caveat.

Sturdy and easy to use, fits X Shears too
This holster is great, especially for the price. The leather is nice quality and the stitching is well done. I wear this daily in the ER and it's holding up well. These will fit standard trauma shears, but I use them with my X Shears. The leather takes a few days to break in and fit whatever shears you use, so it's a bit tight at first and they may come off your belt when drawing, but once they wear in they work great. The clip is large enough for a duty belt but also works on thinner drawstring scrubs as well.

This is the best possible product out there.
This is seriously the BEST shear holster you're going to find! It's well-made, lightweight but sturdy, clips on all my pants and remains there securely all shift. Better yet, you get a lifetime warranty with purchase. The company is owned and operated by an ER physician who knows the plights and struggles of the field, clearly, because a lot of scrub pants claim to have a pocket or strap or sleeve for your shears but none of them really hold your shears in place. If you're on a code team like me, and you have to run to the next Code Blue three stories up, you need your shears to stay secure and by your side at all times, you can't have them flying out of your pockets if you ever break into a jog or run (which used to happen to me constantly before purchasing this product) and this product excels at keeping those shears of yours secured to you. Could not recommend more highly.
