Q: How do I set-up the charger for my battery? What do I need to do if I want to charge a different type of battery than I selected initially?

Detailed instructions are included and there are several YouTube tutorials that can explain it well.

Q: If this the right charger to use if the battery in my car is dead?

I'ld been told, by my mechanic, it's a very good charger. However, the battery (Optima red top) I used it on had a "dead" cell and could not be recharged, so...got a new battery. Might be best to have the battery tested first (@ O'Reilly Auto Parts or NAPA or wherever?). One more thing I was told by my mechanic, if you're using Optima batteries, get the yellow top.
